Having Knee Replacement
Thanks! The first orthopedic doctor wanted me down to about 200 lbs...a loss of 240 from surgery date and 110 lbs from right now. I heard about Dr. S from someone who was wider than he is tall and had his knees replaced by Dr. S. So...when the pain got worse, I went to see Dr. S. and here I am! I'm still a bit hesitant as the first doctor was soooooo adament about the higher risks at a heavier weight.
Jana,
I wish you much luck with your surgery. I can fully relate to your pain. I have bone on bone in both of my knees. I recently had my second panni with the hopes to be able to get both replaced with in the next two years. You doc's thoughts on doing your surgery now at your current weight makes a lot of sense, maybe he should talk to other orthos.
I do have one question that put questions in my mind, why did you choose, or did you choose to have them done seperately. I was counting on having mine done both at the same time.
Please keep us posted. This will be such a wonderful life changing experience for you.
Best wishes.

I guess I never really talked about it to either doctor. My mom had her knees replaced at the same time years ago and came out like a champ! She got out of the hospital on a Friday with instructions to go to PT on Monday and when they saw her walk in with only a cane, they checked her out, said you're great! and then kicked her out of PT. She's never looked back and can scrub her kitchen floor on her hands and knees, sit on her knees while cutting out material on the floor, etc. She's 78 years old!
Isn't the knee pain just unbearable. I find it difficult to explain to others how it hurts and the intensity. While the intensity varies, it just always hurts. I love the question, "Where does it hurt?" um....ALL OVER! You'll relate to this - lately my right knee has been hurting from about 4 inches above the knee to about 4 inches below the knee, just throbbing. And of course, the wonderful clicking you can feel in the inside as you walk any distance - it's weird to anyone who doesn't experience it.
I'll keep you posted!
