Today is NOT my day.  First, lets mention the next round of fighting that our upstairs neighbors started last evening.  Peace and quiet was so nice while it lasted.  Second, I woke up in the middle of the night nauseas, and just like the other day proceeded to hork up some slime.  Everything is digesting fine and I don't have any pain or anything, but if Thundercles is empty for too long he doth protest.  I hope nothing is wrong.  Nausea can be a side effect of starting a higher dose of hormones in my new birth control pill - along with weight gain (woo) and bigger boobs (ok that's not so bad). Third, I woke up this morning to a drip.  Drip.  Drip.  Drip.  The ceiling above the master bath is leaking.  I went to the fighters upstairs (yay fun) and asked if there was a flood but there doesn't seem to be.  So maybe their bathtub is leaking?  She said it drains really slow.  I called the apartments but they aren't open yet.  What really chaps my hide about this is that LAST time my family visited the water heater died.  This time the ceiling is leaking.  Seriously, we pay a LOT in rent, this is not a hell hole, but I bet my family is going to think it is.  This is a nice apartment, in a nice apartment complex.  Its quiet, maintenance is good, and until the people upstairs moved in I had not seen any obnoxious/trashy/typical apartment behavior.  I liked it here.  Today, not so much.  What am I eating today?  B - 16oz mootopia, banana L - last of leftover chicken/rice/ro-tel/bean./corn mixture, with cheese on top and some sliced tomatoes D - the insides of lasagna, and some broccoli Snacks if I want them would be either fiber one yogurt or fiber one bar for snack 1, and soy milk plus fiber for snack 2 I hope your pouch, and your day, is doing better than mine so far!

Sorry to hear that you're having all of those troubles.  I hope that you have a nice visit with your family - you said that they were coming today.  I'm having a good day.  I had my teeth cleaned this morning and had my first post-op visit with my surgeon today.  He said that I should not be concerned about the amount of food that I am eating as I seem to be right on track and suggested that I move into the denser proteins now so that I can most effectively continue to manage calories.  Bottom line, he emphasized that the foods I'm eating are too soft to stay in pouchie for long - he suggested that my primary forms of food from here on should be chicken and fish.  I'm not sure if I will make the transition until this weekend or not - I like to give myself a LOT of free time when trying a new food just in case, but I may try some chicken for dinner tonight. Anyway,  here is my plan for today: B- 1oz. string cheese, 1/4 c. watermelon L- same as breakfast (I have an important meeting this afternoon and I don't want to get sick accidentally so I'm sticking with what's safe) D - To try chicken or not to try chicken?  That is the question.    DH would probably be excited about us actually having a meal that's the SAME for the first time in 5 weeks so I probably will have a little chicken thigh with some leftover carrots.

Rotisserie chicken is nice and moist, especially to start, and dark meat tends to settle better with a lot of people that white meat.  I do fine with either as long as its moist.  Also, I generally do NOT reheat chicken or fish, I eat those leftovers cold, unless it was super moist, or I add some broth or something with I reheat.  It tends to dry out.

I am struggling this morning with drinking, so I am not too sure how much of anything I am going to be able to get down today.  I keep giving it my best effort, but for some reason the ol' tummy just doesn't want to have to deal with liquid so no telling how it is going feel with food.  I will try to get the cottage cheese down for lunch, but I sure am not going to force anything!

Have you tried drinking liquids at different temperatures?  Before surgery, I loved most things ice cold.  Post-op, I drank most things at room temperature (well, except milk-based things).  My pouch just liked it better.  I still drink a lot of things at room temperature these days, but my pouch does tolerate cold stuff just fine.  Some folks are the total opposite - everything must be ice cold.  Different pouches, different preferences I guess... Anyway, just a thought that if your pouch is saying "no way" to something cold, maybe something warm would feel better.   Hope you have a great day -  Kellie

Thanks for the suggestion. I might try some decaf coffee later.  I really think the problem is the Bactrim I am taking for the staph infection in one of my incisions.  The pill is huge and even though I take it is two pieces, it fills my pouch.  Until it digests, the pouch wants nothing else.  But if I wait until it is digested I miss out on getting in my liquids.  Friday morning can't come soon enough - I am finally finished with them.

Sorry to hear about the bad stuff going on Jenn, hope your feeling better and things get fixed quickly. I had to fast this morning for my 2 year check-up blood tests. I'm up around 4:30AM daily and my appointment was at 7:30. By that time I've had my pre breakfast latte and am eating something. I go and sit and after about 15 minutes they call me up to the counter to tell me they need to check with the DR first becasue one of the codes they've given for tests is no longer in their system. So I fasted for nothing! I have to go back tomorrow but the worst part is I couldn't  get an appointment until 8:10. Screw the appointment, I think I'll go at 7AM when they open and take my chances. B - ham, cheese, rf triscuits S -  leftover Edemame Asian salad L - grilled shrimp and broccoli S - fresh fruit and some nuts D - steak, salad, few bites of baked potato

Ov vey, what a day!  Sorry about the upstairs fighting and the leaky ceiling.  Hopefully both will get better soon...   Regarding Thundercles sensitivity if he/she's empty too long, the same thing happens to me.  If I go longer than 3-4 hours without eating something, when I do finally eat my stomach/pouch will often cramp.  It usually cramps for 5-10 minutes, then calms down and I can finish eating.  But that's honestly part of why I evolved to my current food plan, which involves eating small meals/snacks throughout the day.

Here's what's on my plate today, although I suspect I'll eat a little more than what's posted to hit my 2,000 calorie a day goal.  Will depend on whether I get hungry - if so, I'll eat something else.  If not, this'll be it -

Breakfast:  1 c. 1% milk in my coffee, 1 packet Quaker Weight Control oatmeal

Snack #1:  1 c. low-fat cottage cheese, 4 tbsp. SF preserves, 3 large, diced strawberries

Snack #2:  medium banana

[workout #1:  upper body strength training, core work]

Lunch:  3.7 oz. grilled chicken breast, ~1/2 c. glazed baby carrots (okay, I think I'm officially tired of leftover chicken now - lunch tomorrow will be something not chicken!!!)

Snack #3:  6 oz. Breyer's light yogurt, 1/4 c. Kashi granola

Snack #4:  1 slice whole-grain bread, 3 slices smoked turkey, 1 slice Kraft 2% Deli Deluxe American cheese, alfalfa sprouts

[workout #2:  60 minutes of cardio]

Snack #5:  post-workout apple

Dinner:  ~5 oz. ****tail shrimp, 1/4 c. ****tail sauce, salad (romaine lettuce, matchstick carrots, cucumbers - basically whatever veggies are in the fridge), 2 tbsp. light salad dressing

Snack #6:  Starbucks mocha bar

Yesterday was not a good eating day for me protein wise.  Shame on me.  I had a BLT for dinner but it was good because I had my first homegrown tomato on there.  I got around 45g of protein.  Ah, I'll make it up today, but I just didnt' want to eat last night. B - SBD protein bar L - Wendy's chili (left over from my combo yesterday - I like cheap eats) D - Hmmm...not sure because it's first day of class and it's from 6-9:20 so I def. have to eat before class.   S - pistacios Tomorrow will be another weird one because my carpal tunnel got moved two weeks up.  We'll see what I eat tomorrow!

Mmmm homegrown tomatoes... my favorite thing about summer, and I think anyone who knows me would agree, is the fresh tomatoes.  I love growing them, I love the way the plants smell, and I love eating them right off the vine, still warm from the sun, with some sea salt and cracked pepper.  That IS summer to me.  And bacon, well bacon happens.  I like it too, I don't eat it often, and I never have, but I still think its yummy post-op, it settles great, and 2 pieces well drained is a decent bit of protein now and again.
