Questions about getting the surgery

Hello everyone my name is ericia and I have not been approve nor denied I went to the the surgeons office and they told me to just get the dietitian, psychosis

and that’s all I need it. But I called today and they said I wasn’t going to get approve because I have no series health problem. Is there a way that I can get it without having diabetes or high blood pressure ? My bmi is 59 it was over 60 but I want this surgery so I got it down some how

If anyone can tell me what I need to do to get here

Hi Ericia, I didn't have serious health problems either. I did have some reflux that I treated with over the counter meds. I qualified just because my BMI was so hi, I think I started out at BMI of 63. I did have to fulfill certain requirements for my insurance: 6 months of supervised wt loss attempts, 5 year wt history, and psych eval. I would suggest calling your insurance to find out specifics for you policy. Hope this helps Caroline

thank you. i did call them but they said i have to have something related to obesity i really didnt even know what that ment, but i know they said i have to have one serious health peoblem.but i have reflux too. im going to call back to day and see what i need to do. thank you again

Try to think of some other problems you have, that you just deal with due to being obese. Do your joints hurt? do you get short of breath walking very far, do you have trouble completing any of your own hygiene needs? All of these things may help qualify you too!!! Have you had a sleep study? Cause its very possible you could have sleep apnea. Also maybe look into other surgeons office cause that one doesnt sound very helpful.

Being over 100 lbs overweight is a serious health problem.. I would re-contact your insurance company and ? them wether or not it's covered by your plan and what information they require to precertify you. Your dr's office should also be in contact with them to supply what information is needed. Good luck :)

Joint pain, back pain, reflux - mention all of those as health problems. Plus, if you haven't had a sleep test you might want to, to see if you have apnea, which is definitely a weight-related health problem. A lot of people will qualify just based on BMI, but it doesn't hurt to add any other issues to the list. Good luck!

I have Medicare medi-cal and the doctors office said if Medicare is not paying then medi-cal wont pay. But I don’t know how true that really is. so im calling medi-cal and see is this ture.and I don’t have sleep apnea to bad I thought I did Cuz I wake up with headache sometimes. and it hard for me to walk and stand for longtime. My ankles are big so they hurt too

Swollen legs are also something you should mention then, I hope you get it all sorted out. Don't give up hope, I think you'll probably be approved.
