Hello everyone! I had a message from the psych dr. office.  I was told I need to schedule an appt, which will be 3hrs.  Is this typical?   What all do they need to do???

Have you taken the MMPI-2 already?  If not, that's probably where most of the time will go.  Otherwise, I'm not sure why it would take 3 hours.  I took the MMPI-2 on one occasion and then went back for the rest of the eval a couple of weeks later.  In that 1 hour session the therapist asked me about my family life, my support system, my current stressors, my eating/ weight loss history, how my weight has impacted my socially, what my understanding of the risks/benefits of surgery were and how I planned to cope with unforseen complications, etc.  It was a pretty benign meeting.  Expect a therapy referral though if you have issues with binge eating or a lot of stressors that may factor into your recovery from weight loss surgery.  Good luck to you.

Mine was about 45 minutes and was a chat about my life.  I thought she was going to "flunk" me and I wouldn't be able to have surgery but it was a simple process.  Don't sweat it.

There were two long "tests" to take before my appt - the MMPI and then an eating disorders test.  Those took a long time to finish, my actual time with the psychologist was maybe a half hour.

What all do they need to do???   Take up enough time to bill an outrageous amount to the insurance company. Roll On Floor Laughing My A** Off  My eval took 45 minutes.  Having worked in the MH field, unless you are drooling and picking your nose when you go in, I wouldn't worry about it.   Good luck to you. If i remember correctly, mine took about 2.5 hours.  I had to fill out paperwork, do a one on one session with the intake associate, do a two on one session with the intake associate and the psychiatrist and then do an hour long test.  It was brutal.  Best of luck.
