Tuesday July 1st @ 7:30 AM A bit of a reprieve, just enough time to have to stock and scrub the house again ... lol! "There's a reason for everything!" Thanks to all of you for the good thoughts and wishes, it means a lot!

Someone told me they don't cut through your abdominal wall for a hysterectomy.  Is that true?  If so, then how do they do it?  Pardon me for asking.  My momma's in heaven or I'd ask her.  I'm just curious.

My cervix and uterus are scheduled to be removed vaginally. So all internal cutting and stitches. The DR says since it's falling out, might as well take it out the same way. In some cases they do have to cut through the abdominal wall but I got lucky. For people with a very large  uterus or tumors they don't have the choice.

Ok, now my curiosity has got me...Almost sounds like giving birth! The recovery has to be shorter than cutting through the abdominal wall?  What is the projected recovery?

I guess it actually is like giving birth. No cute baby to hold in your arms afterward though!  2-3 weeks off work but no lifting anything heavier than a book for at least 6 weeks.  Dr said I could drive once I could do the "Twist and Shout" with no pain and no pain pills! I was warned that you feel worse and thus tend to take it easier with an abdominal incision, but that I need to do the same with this surgery.

Jan, please forgive my peculiar sense of humor, but when I read this, I imagined you in the OR, holding your uterus and rocking it as though it was a new baby!    I'm pretty sure if you did that, instead of going to the recovery room, you'd be shipped off to the part of the hospital that has the nice, padded walls. A friend of mine who had a vaginal hysterectomy said it was way easier than giving birth, so I suspect you'll do just fine.  Her only remorse was that she didn't have it done sooner (she was afraid of having a hysterectomy and thus suffered for years from heavy bleeding).  She says she feels so liberated now! Hooray on the new date, and who says you have to scrub the house again?  Isn't the previous scrubbing valid for 30 days? Kix

Oh Kix thanks for that laugh!  I am told a normal uterus is the size of a pear, so I could just picture smiling down at that in my hands. Oh you made me laugh so much. Unfortunately it's 3 weeks away until surgery and with 2 Great Danes and a hubby I will need to scrub again. The thought of my MIL coming over and wanting to clean for me makes me want to scrub. I'm way too picky I guess, and she's too nosey!

Kathy, I have had 2 hysterectomy's LOl  First one was a partial (took uterus only) It was done with an incision similar to a C-section on my abdomen vertically.  Then several years later they took my tubes & ovaries with a horizontal scar at the "bikini line"  Recovery is no different than a C-section which I already had 2 of them prior to any of this. Hope this helps. HUGS  Jeanine
