Miles walked or ellipticalled

Is ellipticalled a word?  Maybe in George Bush's dictionary!  I've been keeping track of my miles walked or completed on the elliptical since I started this journey 3 weeks after my surgery.  Through last Friday, I have walked 142 miles! It's really a neat process as I am taking an imaginary walk across the united states.  I'm like Forest Gump in my own mind without the beard.  I'm trekking along down interstate 10 from Pensacola and have almost made it to Louisiana.  I like Louisiana and I know I won't be long there either.  I'll be in Texas forever.  I think it's like 800 miles or so on I-10 in Texas. I though this would be a good post for some people to see how your exercise not only makes strides with your fitness and weight loss goals, but it's really rewarding to keep track of how far you have walked.

That's a great idea Kathy!  I'm going to keep track of my miles too!

One thing I've always done is kept track of the miles walked and then when I reach a certain number I call a friend that lives that far away.  Gives me a little goal and something to look forward too.

Maybe I'll walk to your town.  You're in Northern CA right?  I'm saying prayers for your hysterectomy tomorrow.  How long will your stay be?

Hey Kathy, That sounds like a great idea and makes walking more fun. I think I will begin tomorow walking to your house. And perhaps I will stop in VA to visit Lauren.  Aylett, VA (330 miles) and then to Pensicola, FL (an additional 928 miles). I better get a good pair of sneakers. I'm a little slow though so don't expect me any time soon. I'm a newbie at this exercise stuff. And hopefully sometime during my walk, I will actually have my surgery, which might slow me down for a few days, but ultimately will make me stronger and help me lighten my load. Sounds like fun....I'll see you soon! Denise

That's fun, Kathy!  A friend of mine who works out with me and I started a competition based on a similar idea.  Our plan was to track our elliptical miles and "travel" the distance to Niagara Falls from Cleveland (about 200 miles or so).  When we'd both completed the requisite number of miles, we were supposed to reward ourselves with an overnight trip to Niagara Falls to gamble and party!  Oh, and the loser (the 2nd to arrive) had to buy the winner dinner while we were there.   Unfortunately, my friend fell off the workout wagon about halfway there, so we never finished our trek.  I did continue to track my mileage for a while - when I stopped keeping track I had gone 230 miles in 7 months, or about 32 miles each month.  Even though we didn't finish our little competition, we had fun while we were doing it, and it helped keep us motivated for many months!   My friend is back on the workout wagon again, so perhaps I'll see if she wants to try this again sometime!  If not, I think I'll start tracking my miles on my own, just to see how far I go :-) Kellie

I'd definitely would ask if she's interested again.  maybe this will help her stay committed.  What a fun idea.  I should have got my husband to take me to biloxi when I had walked that far.  I'll have to make it a New Orleans trip.  I'm only about 38  miles away.  I love New Orleans. We'll walk our way around the US virtually visiting each other!  Fun idea
