Swollen legs?
Dear Kelly,
Dunny has given you some very good tips. My legs and feet have always swelled since I have been young. Even after losing 200 lbs. they still swell especially in the hot weather.
Have you had your pre-op testing? You will probably have a cardiogram at that time so that will put your mind at ease.
If you are in the process of developing lymphedma your PCP should be made aware and try and catch it in the early stages. From what you are describing I don't think that is the case, but I am not a medical professional.
June 23 is only a few short weeks away and it is very normal to start imagining all differant ailments etc. You are days away from a new life and a healthy one. Increase your water intake and watch your salt. Most of all keep positive. We are all pulling for you here and making room on the bench for you.
BTW I was 51 when I had the surgery and weighed 460 lbs with lymphedma in my left leg. If this old lady can make it you most certainly will.
Please keep us posted.
Jeanne
You have been given good advise. I did want to mention that whenever I am doing pre-op for surgery they alway tell me no ibuporfen before surgery. My feet and legs used to swell a lot especially when it was hot. good luck, Loris

What is your weather like right now? In addition to salt intake and fluid intake affecting my swollen legs (pre-surgery) I was VERY affected by hot weather. Right now in VA we are having a heat wave and this is the first year in many that my legs are no longer swollen.
Oh and btw way, I think MIL's diagnosis is severe and uncalled for. Always call your doctor when in question!
Good luck getting the swelling down.

Kelly,
Please don't think you're dying. I've been dealing with swollen legs and feet (edema) for almost a year now. I've been seeing my PCP faithfully and after every test under the sun, the only thing they can really attribute it to is my weight. Lots of things cause swelling...extra sodium, heat, etc. Make an appointment with your PCP to rule out anything serious, but don't start making out a will. My PCP gave me a prescription diuretic that works wonders, as does elevating your legs as much as possible. Good luck!

My ankles stay swollen unless I am up on my feet all day or keep them elevated. I take a diuretic for my high blood pressure and even with that they stay swollen. I know it's due to my weight and sitting at a desk all day. When I am more active and exercising I don't have as much of a problem. I don't think it necessarily means that you have a bad heart.
