When I was 24 years old my husband and I and 2 friends of ours (a couple) went to a restaurant and got seated in a booth....Well we tried and I didn't fit.....so we had to get up and wait for a table.....Its something I will never forget it was so embarrassing....So your not alone.....And it will not always be like that...... OMG, you are not the only one.  It is mentally exhausting worrying about the booths and chairs when going out.  I find that I am avoiding it lately, not wanting to go out because of it.   It's humiliating.    I was having a stress test last week and they wanted me to sit in their lab chair to give me an injection in the arm.  Well I tried and it wasn't happening cramming my butt in that chair.  I said well my butt ain't fitting in this chair.  So she gave me an office chair to sit in.  I wanted to crawl in a hole, I was so embarassed.  I cannot wait until I no longer have to worry myself to death going anywhere wondering what the seating is going to be.  Normal weight people who have not been obese have no idea how much we worry about that.   Linda

You are so not alone. I avoid restaurants that only have booths like the plague and I always make my husband request a table.

I went out to buy new patio chairs a couple weeks ago and I had to make my husband pull down all these chairs to make sure they would support me and that I could fit into them. I can't wait until I can sit on anything and not have to worry about it collapsing!

Girlfriend.. you are not alone..  I always worry about seats.... its so embarrassing if its too tight, or even worse is trying to squeeze into a booth.  It is getting a little better for me, but I'm not over that yet.  Soon we will all be able to sit where ever we want to!!!

I was in the bathroom the other day and I had this stand up mirror.. dont ask but i was sitting on the toilet looking at the gray hair in my head lol but i proped that mirror up against the bathtub instead of putting it back on the sheld behind me.. well i looked straight ahead and omg lol i was in utter shock at the fat on the back of my legs hangin down over the toilet seat.. I will get this weight off!!!

Oh my , you guys will never know how relieved I am to know that my seating paranoia is shared by others who share the same concerns as myself . I actually ask for a table rather than a booth before the poor hostess can even get a word in edgewise . I  use to get so embarrassed when  going out & my girls were either squished against the table or plopped on top. I absolutely refuse to sit in a booth these days .  I once needed to go to the ladies room & proceeded to stand up & nearly tipped the table over . Talk about humiliation !!!! Damn I'm sick of this situation , nobody who hasn't been in our shoes could possibly know how awful obesity actually is !!!! The day will come when we will proudly strut into  any eating establishment of our choosing & plop our butts in any chair we wish to sit in without thinking about it in advance. Hugs,Michele

Love all the posts. We are all in the same boat, and I thought I was the only one. I have a pizzeria down the street from my office. I go there sometimes for a salad when I want to get away from my office.  The booths are so tight, I actually have to adjust my stomach to squeeze into the booth.  When I get up to leave I always spend about 5-10 minutes contemplating if I am going to get stuck.  And then my stomach is sore from being pressed against the edge of the table. Why do we put ourselves through this?  It is so great thinking in terms of one day being normal.  I have never felt it would be possible, and now I think about it all the time. Can't wait to get started! Denise
