Kathy I can so relate! I was in the hospital 6 times the first year after WLS with different complications, I swore I never wanted to go back.  I'm still not crazy about all this (who would be), but I know if I try to stay positvie it will help. I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate IV's, my hands are hurting already just thinking about it.  Call you DR you'll be so glad you did!

Lucky you, Jan!  I've had PMS for three weeks now and my period finally showed up today after 45 days.  Perimenopause sucks.

What kind of recovery time are you lookng at?

Hey Kix,  I see the DR Thursday night so I'll know more then, but last time I saw her the plan was - out patient surgery if all goes well, and then 2 weeks off work. Of course work is prepared if I need more time off. I'm hoping 3 weeks max if all goes well. I have high hopes because I've done so well after other surgeries.

YAY  Jan!  You won't miss it!  My last one was right before the endometrial ablation I had in March - which led to the discovery that I needed the hysterectomy.  I was expecting something in April, but only had very light spotting, then I had my hysterectomy.  I gave all of my products to my girls, and cleared out a drawer and much of the cupboard in my bathroom.  I haven't miss dealing with period stuff! I'm finally feeling like I have energy again, and for the most part am normal.  I still have a lifting restriction and exercise restriction.  I have my first post op visit on Friday.  Hopefully, I will be cleared for more activity. Now that I'm getting over this one, my plastic surgery date has been moved up, so I will have my lower body lift and breast lift on Saturday!  At least I can overlap the last bit of one recovery with the beginning of another! I know that you are going back to work after a couple of weeks, but realize that you might be more tired than you expect.  That was my experience. Take care, prepare for your post op days, and enjoy this last period!

Glad to hear your doing well Jennie! I understand that I'll be tired, but I'm 10 minutes from home and we have a room at work with a couch and they've already said if I do come back and need to rest it won't be a problem. After WLS I was tired too for a month or so.  Plastics on Saturday - wow!  Is Kaiser doing it? Best wishes to you. If you feel up to it we have an OH support group meeting tonight, it's a great group!

Great that your work can give you a place to rest.  Just a short nap with my feet up really helped me at the 2 -3 week mark. I think that is what surprised me more than anything because I hadn't really had that with other procedures.  You should do fine with all those accomodations. I am surprised at the number of people who had their surgery at the same time as me who still have not driven - I did wait 2 weeks for that because I felt pretty weak, and didn't know if I would be too exhausted to drive home - BUT 4 weeks amazes me!  Also there are several who have not left their homes yet on my group with hystersisters! Oh, I also went home the day after my LAVH - about 26 hours afterward.  I was in the Same Day Surgery Unit, which meant that I didn't have a room, but a bed in a room with 25 other beds, all curtained off, and 2 bathrooms.  Not the best accomadations under the sun! Kaiser is doing my plastics!  They will cover the panni part with a bit more because of some of rashes and other issues I've had, plus they cover the breast lift.  Because just a panni removal would not solve most of my problems, I am paying the difference to convert it to a body lift.  I cannot prove medical necessity for a body lift, but I would have a really, really bad cosmetic result with a panni removal or even a tummy tuck.  I just have way too much extra skin above my belly button, and on my butt, outer thigh.  My skin is pretty deflated, and isn't as noticible when standing, but as soon as I sit down, I have quite a large amount of skin around my middle. Where is the support meeting and what time?  We have something in the works, but I will see if I can work it out.  If not, maybe next month!

I've been keeping up with hystersisters too and it is amazing the differenace in peopel that had surgery the same day. I don't in any way want to sound mean but I do think some people milk it, but it could be they actually really do need more time to heal and feel better. I guess I come from tough stock. My Mom has a very high pain tolerance and recovers very quickly from things. I don't have her same pain tolerance but I have found I recover quickly too. Mom had a TT and Breast Lift done at Kaiser by the head of the Plastic Surgery dept. in Downey. He fell in love with her, was so pleased to be able to help her out. She had worked for 4 years to loose weight on her own, she lost 175 pounds and all her Dr's at Kaiser fought for her to get plastics. She paid a $5.00 co-pay. The day she was discharged he told her, "Now even though you have the boobs of a 16 year old, I don't want you acting like one, so no driving for 2 weeks!" She recovered very quickly and when I took her back for her 2 week check-up he told her the next time she could drive herself.  She had over 125 staples with her tummy tuck and I think it freaked me out more than anything! The support group is a Corner Bakery on Foothill in Pasadena at 6PM. Heather is teaching is the San Fernando Valley and 4 or 5 months pregnant so we're trying to get it closer so she won't have to drive as far.
