MONDAY WEIGH IN! (June 1, 2008)
Yikes! I don't know how accurate this weight is, I weighed after eating breakfast and Aunt Flo finally arrived this morning, but I guess I'll have to chalk it up to vacation eating and not enough water.
We had a great time in South Dakota! I had no idea the Black Hills area was so beautiful. We stayed two days in Deadwood, where the slot machines are far looser than here in Colorado (I budgeted $200 for gambling and came home with $210, including a $120 win on a penny slot machine). Deadwood is particularly charming, the city is dedicated to preserving its history and thus it is a fascinating place to visit. While in that part of the Black Hills, we visited Belle Fourche (the geographic center of the US and a real armpit), Sturgis, Spearfish, Wall (home of the world famous tourist trap Wall Drug) and Badlands National Park (stark, yet beautiful).
We also stayed two days in Custer at a cheesy motel (I discovered that at age 50.5, I have finally outgrown my love of cheesy motels). While in this part of the Black Hills, we visited Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial (a must see) and of course Mt Rushmore (we stayed for the evening lighting ceremony, whichis a bit overtly patriotic for me, but seeing the monument lighted at night certainly is beautiful).
I did a lot of walking, but didn't keep up with my water, so I felt a bit dehydrated on the drive home. I'm pretty sure I overindulged in carbs while away (ate lots of delicious homemade cheeseburgers).
Home now, and need to get back on a better routine so I don't get circus fat again.

Beginning weight: 530 lb
Surgery weight: 407 lb
Last week: 224 lb
This week: 230 lb! (EEK!)
Vacation weight gain sucks. When I stepped on the scale after I got home from Wisconsin, I weighed 200.5 pounds!!! I nearly squawked, having VOWED never to see anything above 199 on the scale ever again. Turned out ever wasn't such a long time.... Anyway, I can definitely relate to the EEK feeling, but we know what we need to do: eat right and get back to our regular exercise routine. If I do what I'm supposed to, the weight will come back off. I just have to be patient and persistent!!! And I know the same is true for you - perhaps we can offer each other some special encouragement to keep us motivated to be super good for a few weeks....

Yes, I know exactly what I need to do, and it includes geting back to the rec center and quit eating bread. We stopped at so many local restaruants that had my favorite cheeseburger (mushroom swiss melt) on the menu that I just ate them for too many meals. I didn't go to the gym two days prior to leaving town because we were crazed getting everything done in time. I did lots of walking on vacation, but none of it was aerobic (according to my pedometer).
I may try my own version of two-a-days by going to the gym in the morning to do 30 minutes of cardio/strength training, run my errands, then return to the gym and do another 30 minutes of cardio-only. It seems to be easier if I break things up rather than do one long hunk of exercise each day.
I know you can do it, and since you can do it, so can I!
