Just to say HI

I never thought about coming in here to say HI.   I need to feel like I fit.  Sometimes in the main forum I just don't like it.  I have only lost 130lbs but would love to lose about another 75.  I am finding it difficult to get my big behind going again and exercising.  Any tips?

And thanks for being here!

Welcome!  If you feel like accountability will help you get back on track - Dunny posts a daily "what are you eating" post.  And I think it is neat because when I am allowed to eat solids, I will use it for ideas.  Good Luck!

Mari, there's all sizes and post op dates and personalities here.  We've definitely got room for you in here.  I check this forum many times a day and for me, it's a great fit.  I luck on the RNY board but rarely post and my surgeon's forum, they are all lightweights on there and no one understands where I'm comng from. So, welcome.  Come on in and stay a while!

Greetings from the other side of metro Denver!

It's hard to get back into the swing of exercising once you stop for any long period of time.  Start off slow, maybe just take a walk around your neighborhood after dinner now that the weather is so nice, then add more walking as you get back into a routine.

Once you've re-etsablished a routine for exercise, then you can add other fun activities (swimming, hiking, going to the rec center) that will keep you motivated.

That old chestnut "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" fits here.  Just start, a bit at a time, and before you know it, you'll be back in the groove.  I know for me, if I don't exercise every day, I don't burn a single calorie no matter what the scientists say about how you at least burn something just sitting.  HA!

Welcome Mari - I think we have at least 2 other patients from Dr. Chae on this board, and from what I understand he is wonderful :) Welcome to our little spot on the internet - its a very supportive board that is getting more and more people all the time.  If you want to keep yourself accountable we have a regular daily gym post during the week to list your exercise, and a daily food post.  You can always track what you eat on dailyplate.com or another similar program - and you know the rules, protein first, no snacking.  (Some people on here spread their meals out all day and have planned snacks but they are generally the very very active individuals - I used planned snacks early out to get enough protein and calories but try not to snack now).  Dense protein is your friend farther and farther out because it fills you up best and stays in your pouch longer. We also have a weekly recipe post where we share new weight loss friendly recipes so you can get some ideas there and post your favorite recipes.  I wish you all the best and hope we see you around often! Jenn, I am still pre-op but struggle to get protein in now. I am not much of a meat eater, so I tend to rely on pnut butter, low fat cottage cheese and some knid of meat.  Also, once in a while a few nuts.  I am losing, likely due to the reduced portions.  I have been watching what I eat since my first required seminar on 2/28/08.  I have lost 36 lbs so far, but I am concerned after the WLS how I will ever get enough protein in.   I am very ignorant about the protein shakes, I know nothing about them at all.  No idea what is best, worst, etc.  I have been diligent about following the Dr. orders as I want to be successful as you, Kix and many others have been.  I think I have told you before what an inspiration you are to me (and others).  Some of the folks that I have communicated with pre-op have told me it is all about cheating to get the surgery done, then start following.  Obviously, this is not what it is all about and I am determined to do this right...to enrich my life, maybe even save it! Also, I have tried so many different kinds of yogurt but cannot stand the aftertaste that it leaves in  your mouth.  Any suggestions there? Thanks again for being there for us ;) Penny

Most of my family is vegetarian, and I would like to be honestly, I'm not all that crazy about meat.  Milk and soy milk are options, as well as fresh and dried soybeans, lentils, any other kind of bean, string cheese, ricotta, moderate amounts of nuts and seeds, jerky, protein shakes, protein bars (look for whey protein), eggs, egg whites, protein enriched cereals like kashi go lean, meat substitutes, tofu, and others.  I am also not a huge fan of yogurt, btw. Its not always easy to get it in, but an important rule after wls is to eat your protein first, and then just small amounts of other foods if you have room.   Good luck Penny!
