Walk, walk, walk and walk some more. even in the beginning you will not feel like it but with every walk you take you will feel stronger and stronger. of all the advice I got that was the best. Second don't be afraid to ask questions  if anything feels strange make sure that you ask you doctor if it is normal. I have a spot on my right thigh that is numb it scared me like anything. found out it was the way I layed on the surgery table and does happen to some people but I was freaking out. Good luck I will be praying for you

follow all doctors orders, especially using the spirometer hourly, if possible (i say this because I got double pneumonia the next week after surgery by NOT doing that enough), so please do, i don't recommend re-hospitalization for anyone!  Chapstick, face moisturizer, good quality kleenex from home.  Good luck, we 'll all be keeping you in our prayers.  Lys

Tuesday's are a great day to have surgery!!!  Good Luck    My advice is that not be alone while in the hospital.  I am usually a loner, but I was having to process so much in my mind about how this was so life changing that I needed the comfort of having someone who loves me and supports me with me at all times.  It just helped me get through a wide range of emotions.   Again, Good Luck and Congratulations

Woohoo!  Congratulations.  Last minute advice... hrmm... nope.  Oh yeah, baby wipes or some kind of wipe like that - handy to clean up and refresh with.  Good luck!  I'm so excited for you!! (and to the spirometer person, definitely a good point - walk and use the huffer puffer AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE)

Get as much rest as you can in between your walking!!!  You know at night you won't get any real sleep...not with people coming in and out of your room.  Keep hydrated and ask as many questions as you want.  Its all about YOU and your weight loss. Congrats!!!!!!!!

Something I was so grateful for later was a journal.  Write questions to ask the doc later, write emotions, write observations, etc.   Thoughts and prayers to you... -Dawn

Good luck and a speedy recovery to you!!!   The other thing I would suggest is to take a comfortable lounge outfit.  The morning after my surgery I changed into my own clothes, so I would feel more comfortable walking up and down the halls.  I was even able to walk down to the main floor of the hospital to the gift shop then as well; oh ya and some easy slip on shoes/slippers.  I took my crocs and was so greatful for them!!!
MY JOURNEY BEGINS...

Oh, I hated that spirometer!  Loved my pain button though.  They had to pry it from my hands the next morning as it was wrapped around the button like my hand was asleep! I agree with the comment about your own gown.  I changed the next day into a new satin gown and robe.  I floated through the halls like I was the queen of the floor.  It was a beautiful ivory gown with large fuscia and red flowers on it with lace.  I still wear it now because it's so pretty, but it is HUGE on me.   One other comment, don't take too much with you, you won't need it.  I'll keep you and your surgeon in my prayers on Tuesday.  You can count on that.

Whoa, I just saw this posting and am glad I didn't miss the opportunity to wish you well before I leave town!

Advice for the hospital?  Get up and walk when they tell you even if you don't feel like walking, and if the nurse doesn't get you up to walk because she's busy, tell her you don't care if she has to get you up at midnight, that you really need to get up and walk!

Also, make sure when they offer you food (at my hospital, it was yellow jello), you actually get sugar free jello and not a church picnic-sized portion.  They brought me a tub o'sugared jello and then wondered why I balked at eating it!  It's easy for the kitchen to make mistakes, so try to stay alert about it.

Sip that   water (or suck on those ice chips) to stay hydrated.  If you need the pain meds, take them, but I didn't need mine after the first night.

Most important of all, have an uneventful surgery, get home soon, and we'll see you back here on the Losers' Bench!
