the booby squisher experience

I had a mammogram on Monday. It'd been a couple of years since my last one. The technician was amazed at how much weight I have lost, said it doesn't show that I ever had a weight problem. Hah!! She didn't see the belly! Anyway, the best thing was that when I went to change I got a sudden panic about the gowns, seeing only one pile. But I decided to try it on and it fit!!! Easily, too. The main problem was all the ties and trying to figure out what to do with them. So I did nothing, just wrapped myself up and sat with the other victims. The technician also told me that I look "normal", and since I was so tall she had been about to offer me the bigger gown but then she looked at me and realized I wouldn't need one. How cool was that!! I asked about how losing weight would affect the reading, since I had been told I had dense breasts in the past. The technician explained  that having dense breasts doesn't have anything to do with having fat. She said losing weight does not mean it is easier for the machine to read your boob, since the density is still there. I have to say this was the first mammogram I have ever had that didn't hurt. Although we did need a fork lift to get those tube socks onto the examining plate. But my real reason for writing to all of you, is to tell you that I got a call yesterday from the office, saying they found something in the left outside lobules and that I need to return for an hour and a half digital evaluation. They did say it could be due to the weight loss, but they want to check thoroughly. Well, I am glad that they are being careful, but I am having some trouble not worrying. I can't get in until the 30th. So, if anyone else has been through this, tell me not to worry. -Julie

Sorry about your news Julie. I know it is tough to hear, that there may be a problem. Two people that I know that had Breast Cancer. Both had mamaograms (sp?)  were sent to the surgeon ASAP. My MOM has had many biopsy's on her Breast and all were negative. I think they are just being causious (sp?) (Sorry I can't spell tonite.)  Keep your chin up and try not to worry till they give you something to worry about.  I know easier said than done. I would be worried too. I'll say a prayer for ya.  Tommi

Scary stuff.  I am going to ask my gyno tomorrow to feel a lump right below my left breast.  I think its just a lipoma, but I want to be sure.  As I've lost weight I can feel it more and more.  I wish you the best and hope its nothing.  It sucks you have to wait so long, but hopefully it will pass quickly. BTW, I am worried about this gown thing tomorrow too.  I've always taken my own gown, but I sent it out with the last batch of clothes I sent out, so I'm hoping the gowns at the doc aren't outrageously small.  I'm glad yours fit :)  That's a nice feeliing. Hugs! Jenn

Julie, I'll be praying for negative results for you for sure. I remember reading someone called our post WLS breasts chesticles which really makes me crack up.  It just brings up really awful pictures to my mind whenever I think about it! I had to have my first mamo before surger and it wasn't too bad.  it was like scooping up a big mound of flesh so that the tech could squi**** I think I had to put two gowns on.  On facing backwards and one facing forwards.  How embarrassing.  And they had those tiny, metal chairs with arms that none of us could fit in pre WLS.  Precariously balancing one cheek on the edge of the chair to make us look half normal like we could actually fit in the chair!  Ugh, I'm so glad those days are over. Jen, I hope your gown fits when you go!  I'm sure it will.   Again, Julie, you'll be in my prayers tonight!
