OT: First job
This was a funny funny thread I thought I would have to get a new job cause I was in here laughing so loud. I enjoyed hearing your experiences about your first jobs and as usual I felt like I was denied that experience as a youth. My father flatly refused to allow my sister & I to work while we were young because he said you have plenty of time for that..... you will have to work all of your life. When I was young I could not understand and I was soooooo angry but as an adult I completely understand what he was saying!
Saying all of that my first job was after college graduation as a Social Worker investigating child sexual abuse reports without a car....boy do I have some funny stories of folks chasing me out of their house with weapons and I had to run down the street to call the police rather than jumping in a car.

Change is a Process Not an Event
My first job was at Wendy's when I was 15 ( I might have lied about my age a little). It was cool until I turned 16 and started dating. I went to the drive-in with this foine upper classman, that had a little hooptie (so I thought I was the shat) until he told me I smelled like french fries, "but that's aight Baby, I like fries"
I had worn the same jacket that night that I wore to work... bad idea. I left that joint and went to work at the front desk at a hotel.

My first job was at Taco Bell. I got the job because my mama drug me in there and told the manager "she need a job, give her a application".
I was only getting paid 3.35 an hour and that still wasn't **** in 1986 but I needed that money desperately. My mama had long since stopped buying me deodorant or anything else so I was glad that I didn't have to use baking soda anymore. I couldn't even comb my hair after a while because she wouldn't buy me a perm kit. (Man, my mama was cruel B-I-T-C...)
Anyway, I quit because she kept taking all of my money. One day I cashed my check and put the money under my mattress. When I came home from work, she had took my money! I asked her for my money and she said "What! I spent it on the rent!" After that, she started harassing me for my money and I told her that I hadn't got paid yet. Do you know this heffa called down to the job and told them not to give me my check because she would be picking it up from now on!

My absolute first job was babysitting. I was the neighborhood baby sitter & me & a cpl of my good friends started our own version of the "babysitter's club". I was about 12yrs old & ALWAYS had money on me! I never had less than $50 on me & I thought I was rich, lol!
After that my very first tax deducting job was for the Henry Ford Museum. I worked in the village & it was the best first job. It was season, from about march 'til december & all my friends from school worked there so it was like our official hang out spot where we made legit money. I started out making $5.65/hr then after 2mos I got a raise to $6.15 & thought I was "that deal", lol....
Oh to be young again & not have to worry about bills, stress, & how much gas is! Lol, all I used to buy was clothes, mac make up(that I never wore), & get my nails done! Lol, that was the life!
