Welcome!

Best advice I can give it start eating as if you already had the surgery. Sip water or Crystal Light, protein shakes, low fat meals and exercise. Get your mind conditioned before so when you have the surgery you want be surprise.

I found an Atkins style high protein low carb type diet to be the easiest to follow.  You get tired of eating  protein and you will miss carbs but I promise you, you won't be hungry and if you are very careful to stay within the carb limits you definitely will lose weight.

Best wishes,

Rhonda

I agree Ms. Rhonda. The high protein-low carb has been working for me. Crystal light is straight from heaven!!!    It's mind-over-matter.  Pray for God to help you get your mind right and then follow the tips folks here give you.  We are here to HELP, not to hinder.  Good luck my dear!

Hello Jackie

Do you have a nutritionist? Are you in a weight loss program at your hospital? If so, contact your NUT for a good diet plan.

Which doctor are you going to see? The PCP or the surgeon? I ask because if you're getting ready for WLS, it's best to stick with the plan that has been prescribed. I don't know your health history so I'm reluctant to tell you to exercise if you have joint problems or to follow a liquid diet if you're a diabetic.

* I * followed a low carb/high protein diet with my NUT's guidance prior to surgery for six months. Look under Cookie Luscious' profile if that's what you need.

Good Luck!

Hello Wonkad                                                                                                                                      Yes i do have a nutritionist, but it was my first time meeting with her weeks ago. She made things very breif with me and handed me a sheet of paper with foods to stay away from. I have stayed away from those things but i feel that nothing works. I stop eating even when i feel full, i been kick the habit of drinking pop and was with cranbreey juice which she said it was not good too much sugar only can have six ounces of it a day so i rather i didn't drink it at all. I will be seeing the surgeon more than my pcp. there was no plan prescribed and i cant gain any weight or i will be kicked out of the program. Thanks for the advice, but what is a sister to do.

Hi jboo

I had to lose 50 lbs before surgery. Like the others have said Higher Protein/Low carb is a good and relatively quick and easy way to lose wt since you don't have to be hungry and can eat quite a bit of food.  I still eat that way basically, when I veer from that (even since wls) I slowly begin to creep up the scale.  To me Atkins IS the authority on HP/LC ... got it down to a science.

Here"s a link to a good Atkins website ... has recipes, message boards .. etc.

If your going against the clock to quickly get some weight off, I would do a purge or detox, like super dieter''s tea or something like that.  Drink the tea for a couple of days, cut your carbs and sugar as well. Also, increase good, lean protein (chicken breast, tuna, etc), this should help you drop a couple of pounds in at least a week.
