I was a lightweight with co morbidities ( adult onset diabetes and hypertension ) and I also had very severe GERD due to a huge hiatal hernia .

I was given two choices - A proximal RNY or a sleeve .... with the RNY ( with Hiatal Hernia Repair ) being strongly recommended due to the hiatal hernia and GERD.

I also asked for a larger pouch because I love to eat salads and vegetables and beans .. so basically bulky high fiber foods low in fat .

This choice has not affected my end weight at all - and I find I can eat small portions of just about everything. ( but I choose to eat lowfat and low sugar )

My choice ( and complying with my Docs instructions long term by getting therapy for emotional and bored overeating , meeting with the nutritionist about proper post op portions and NEVER stretching my pouch or my hiatal hernia repair ( God Forbid ) means I still have malabsorption of fats ten years post op, good pouch size and very little bounceback from my lowest post op weight.
