"But my surgeon said to take a couple of Flintstones vitamins and I'll be okay!"
The number is about the same for all forms of calcium in a chemical state. Food state is higher (ie dairy will absorb better, and we absorb MORE of the calcium from dairy, but not from "fortified" dairy cause that's generally fortified with carbonate).
500-600 -- it's not a fixed number for anyone, but don't stray too far over 600. That's why a full dose of the max citracals is 630mg of calcium citrate.

Hey, you're trying to do better. That's not a laughable offense.
Laughable would be "I'm 2 weeks out, and I know EVERYTHING and those of you with deficiencies don't know crap and you should listen to me cause well my doctor is the #1 best surgeon in the whole entire world and thus I am the best person to listen to so THERE."
Or something along those lines.
Don't mind me. I'm on muscle relaxants. And topamax.

The only time I have had a high lab (or any issue with my labs) was at 3 mo. out. From surgery till then I had been taking 2 Meijer vitamins. They lowered it to one, and my labs have been excellent ever since. Not only have I checked with my surgeon and his staff(nurse and nutritionist ) but I have had my family doctor and her nutritionst go over my labs(each time). Again excellent! My family doctor is very involved in my journey, as she has a sister that is interested in WLS, and another patient also. I am confident that my labs will continue to be fine, so long as I am complient with my program. My only concern is with constipation issues(which is due to my not getting in enough fiber). I am having Carpal Tunnel(diagnosed before WLS) surgery soon, and I know pain meds will cause more problems with that. Other than that I am healthy as a horse.

Do they really check everything? I would be interested to see how truly comprehensive your labs are, or if it's just the basics. Even my surgeon's office doesn't order a PTH, for example - they just say to check calcium - but I add it onto my lab slip (among other things) every time.
Oh, and I have been to both the dentist and eye doctor regularly, and both are aware of my WLS surgery. My teeth are fine, and my eyes have actually improved sine WLS(still have to wear glasses though, but I've been wearing them since first grade!). Gotta go, the insurance guy and roofing guy are coming out to take a look at my mother's house. The roofer's diid a horrible, ****ty job on her house, and I want to be there to show the insurance guy all the problems so that they will fix it right. The roofers took advantage of my mom, as she is a widow, elderly, and dosn't know much about such things. It is really bad. They broke boards in the roof of both the house and the garage and left them broken, they used nails that were waaay too long, so there are like a zillion nails sticking through everywhere, they put new siding on her house and did not wrap it first, so now her house loses it's heat and has several leaks. And there is black grit everywhere(they did not clean up at all). What a mess! Gotta Go!
Hi Everybody,
I'm almost 2 1/2 years out and still at goal. I lost 97 lbs. I have been taking childrens chewables with iron (a double dose) since surgery. I could change to regular pills, adult strength, but I hate swollowing pills.
For the first year after the immediate blood test I had two separate full panel bloodt tests at six month intervals and have had one full blood panel each year since. I've never had anything abnormal.
Best to you all.
