Please help. I have to find a way to stop smoking before Dr. Facundus will do my surgery. He will do a nicotione test. I have tried everything to quit on my own but not having any luck. I may just have to go get a script to help me quit.. Does anyone know how they do the nicotine test. Please keep me in ur prayers maybe God can help me.

I can't really say I have ever had a real smoking addiction.  I could always pick it up and put it down when I wanted.  I have to say though, when I stopped in order to prepare for surgery, there were times when I really wanted one.  I just had to stop and think about which was more important to me.  Good Luck!

Several of my coworkers had good luck taking Chantix to quit smoking.  You might discuss that with your doctor.  It took a couple of weeks to work but they all quit and only one started back (he quit taking it too soon).  It's not for everyone (depends on what other meds you might be on...again...discuss with your doctor), but it's worth a try.

In the end, if you want to have your surgery bad enough...you'll find some way to help you quit.  I gave up the habit 20 years ago and would never start back again.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Jessica,

I had to take their nicotione test, its a urine test like you would take for a job.  I faced the same delima when I found out! I know its going to be hard, but I also know that if YOU want something bad enough, you can do it.

For me, I went to my seminar on June 22/23 and i was told that if i wanted this surgery I would have to quit smoking.  I smoked my last one that night, and that was that.  I have smoked since I was about 16 (just had to be cool :( booo). It was hard, and on days two thru 4 I wanted one really really bad, but I just kept telling myself I wanted this more!

Good Luck!!  I know you can do this!! Just Believe....and you can do anything!

I had to quit before my surgery, too. I didn't have to take any tests with my doctor, he just decided to trust me. It was hard, but I put them down cold turkey. I wish I could now, but am having trouble. My surgery was the most important thing to happen to me and I wasn't going to mess it up by continuing smoking. I picked them back up about a year or two after the surgery and wish I never had.

Chantix works but I believe that you truely have to want to quit for it to work. And you better do it now, because if everyone else's pouchy is like mine, Chantix doesn't agree with it.

Good luck you can do it!!!!!!!!!

I, too, have had family members that were successful with Chantix.

The doctor I used to work for used to prescibe Wellbutrin for patients whose insurance wouldn't pay for other meds, and it worked for some too. Just another idea.

Jessica...my doctor required I stopped smoking.  I stopped shortly after my first seminar with him.  I bought the patches and used 2 and just never smoked again. The smoke really makes me sick now if I am closed up with it.  I loved them when I smoked and I smoked 2 packs a day.  You just have to decide if you want to smoke and remain obese or stop and be healthy.  You can do it.  I am praying for you!!

Hi Jessica,

I quit before surgery. It was hard very hard, but I did it and I know you can too. Sadly I picked them back up right after surgery. I want to quit again. So I'll help you out if you help me. =) We can be quitting buddies.
