OMG...your words rang in my ears from the time we got home until the following Sunday.  I kept telling John I had to lose the last 30 pounds and I just couldn't.  Well...your words and I quote..."you need to quit drinking those diet cokes" kept ringing in my ears.  So that Sunday, I put them down.  I have not had a diet drink since then.  I changed three things...I upped my water 20 oz. a day, put the diet drinks down and began my protein shakes EVERY morning again.  JUJU...I have lost 7 pounds in one week.

Thank you so much for kicking my behind.  I love you!!!!!  I am gonna get in that size 12 by summer...I hope.

Sounds like I need to put down my Diet Dr. Peppers...I only drink one a day, but I know I should be drinking water instead.  Ever since my husband got me a Magic Bullet last month, I have been able to drink a protein smoothie every day, which really helps keep my protein intake up.  I usually drink one on the way to school at night.

Good luck with your weight loss!

Thanks so much, Sandi!!!!  I could not believe my eyes when I got on the scales this morning.  Judy told me to put them down.  I drank more than one a day, though.  I drank my water, but in between the water and coffee, I drank diet cokes.  I know the extra protein helps and the extra water,,,,but wow.

Confession, I went back to diet coke and dr. pepper, too.  I didn't gain so much weight, but my blood pressure went up.  I think it is the sodium in the soda.  I can drink coffee or flavored water and nothing happens, but soda...and I am back there again.

Oh, yes, if you suffer from leg cramps, try drinking a small amount of tonic water...diet and no gin with it.  The gin is counter productive.  The quinine in the water is used to control the leg cramps.  I drink a little...but I am careful, because it is "sparkling."

Soda of any kind is not good for us.  Water of any kind in vast quantities is good for us.  I also recommend some of the fiber tablets that have calcium, I find them very helpful and I like the chewiness of them.  With so much protein, I sometimes needs more fiber than I am getting.

Hi Karla!!!!  I was not gaining, but I could not lose.  Judy told me on the way to New Orleans that I needed to quit drinking the diet drinks.  It is amazing what has happened.  I know the added protein along with the extra 20 oz. of water each day is also helping...but the diet cokes evidently have something in them that made me not lose because I did not change my eating habits at all.  Maybe it is the sodium.  I don't know.  I do know that I am getting fuller quicker and staying that way longer now.  I think I have to leave them alone.  I know some people do fine with them, but evidently I don't.
I have never tried tonic water for leg cramps.  I have always ate bananas for that.  However, I may try the tonic water next time.

I find this all very interesting...I'm a serious diet mountain dew addict, or was.  Anyway, I've been drinking caffeine free for a few months now, getting rid of the caffeine in preparation for surgery.  Sometime in January I quit drinking them so much, only one here and there.  My pre-op weight loss was at a standstill but after I quit those, I started dropping pretty steadily again.  For something that basically has nothing in it, I wonder what causes this to happen?  There has to be something.  I've compared the sodium and it doesn't seem so bad.  I think there is a conspiracy, lol.
