I did finally get hold of dr facundus' nurse and she told me that the blood was b/c when i went back in to the er they had to do a contrast test with xray and that is what is causing me to bleed.  Its not red blood so apparently from what they say its ok.  It still hasnt stopped.  But Im alive.

I am totally regretting this.  I feel horrible, everyone talks about how they got up and walked, blah blah blah.  i can barely raise my head, I cant even get close to 64 oz. of fluids, and frankly.....My stomach hurts to high heaven.

Other than that...I am alright.  I am getting chills, and I cant seem to get the soar throat to go away.  Any pointers?

I am glad that this is nothing to be concerned about! Do NOT compare yourself to everyone else...we are all different and have our own way of dealing with discomfort, etc. It should get better every day. There is no way you can expect to drink 64 oz a day this early out. This whole process takes time and you have just begun. I hope you feel better and start to enjoy your decision.

Just my 2 cents' worth!! Hang in there!!

Marla, try to hang in there. I didn't do a whole lot of anything but rest for the first 5 or 6 days. And truthfully, I was 8 WEEKS out before I could get 64 ounces down. Just do the best you can and have faith that this will be worth it. When you are feeling better, I hope all of this will just be a faint memory.

Oh Marla...I am so glad to hear from you and that you are better.  64 oz is a bit much right now at your stage.  Just keep water beside you and sip as often as you can.  Also, if your doctor has recommended it, sip on some protein shake.  That will help with your strength a bit.  As the others said, do not compare yourself to anyone.  I could barely walk for a few weeks.  I was weak and felt as though I would never be "normal" again.  However, now I could eat a horse if I wanted to and have energy galore.  It just takes time.  I do not understand you having chills and a sore throat though.  You may want to tell the doctor about that.  Take care of yourself.

Marla,

RECTAL BLEEDING IS NOT NORMAL. Your instinct is telling you that you do not feel right and you need

to listen to that instinct.

Have you seen your surgeon face to face with these complaints and problems? IF NOT, DEMAND TO DO SO IMMEDIATELY. YOU PAY THE SURGEON TO PROVIDE A SERVICE TO YOU AND HE IS CHEATING YOU IF HE DOES NOT DO SO!

If your surgeon or his represenstative has not seen you, then his NURSE certainly can not determine that the bleeding is normal and caused from an X-Ray. At the bare minimum, someone should do a "Hemmocult" test for occult blood in the stool to determine if it is actual blood or if it is a contrast dye or other substance.

If you have seen you surgeon and he has made you feel as if he is blowing you off or not taking you seriously enough--go to the Emergency Room and ask that they call someone other than your surgeon. After your treatment, then call his office and notify the answering service that you have obtained care elsewhere. That should get his attention.

Huntsville Hospital does have a bariatric surgeon on staff and I am sure he would assume your care should the need arise. However, if you are indeed having

active rectal bleeding, it is more likely that you need to see a GI surgeon or colon/rectal surgeon. The

Emergency Department physicians can make that determination.

I would suggest that if you continue to have problems and you continue to have the instinct that things are not right--you listen to that and go to Huntsville Hospital Emergency Department. I suspect you may have had your surgery at Crestwood, but you may be taken more seriously at Huntsville Hospital Emergency Department.

Good luck to you!

Edited to add: Have you had the sore throat since surgery or is this a new symptom? If you have had
it since surgery, it may well be that it is caused from the tube used to intubate you to protect your airway during the surgery. If this is the case, something like a warm sal****er gargle, chloraseptic throat spray or a cough drop may help to ease the discomfort. You also state that you have chills--have you checked your temperature to see if you have a fever? If you are running a fever, sore throat or not, you should be seen by a physician being that you are so newly post-op.

Hi Marla, I am sorry you arent feeling well at this point. I remember my first few days at home, I didnt want to drink anything, water or sf koolaid. really the thing that best hit the spot for me was broth or decaf tea,( I still prefer warm beverages) and once I found a sf popsicle I liked I was in heaven.

Marla,
It saddens me greatly to read your post.  It is like I can feel your pain.  I had a very caring surgeon and did not have to go through the things that you are going through.  Don't misunderstand, I am not saying that your doctor is not caring, but if someone would call Dr. Freeman bleeding he would meet them at his office regardless of the hour!  That is how important his patients are to him.  I know this first hand!  I really wish your doctor would see you.  It does get better!  Don't stress about getting in all that liquid right now!  There is NO way!!!  Just take little sips and every day you will be able to do a little bit more.  Try popsicles if you can.  Please consider going back to the ER if the bleeding continues for this in not normal.

Prayers being said for you honey.
Becky
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me".

Marla I am so sorry that you are feeling bad. I ope you feel better very soon. I am starting to wonder if I should use Dr. Facundus. If I did not have so much money invested in his office I would change for sure.

It is never too late to change if you are having doubts. Surely anything that you have done for his office/requirements will transfer to another doctor.
Just remember, they are your medical records and you have a right to a complete copy of them.

If you are having doubts, I would suggest that you pay attention to that and act accordingly. I have not yet had WLS, but have done a lot of research on it and the various providers/surgeons in the area.

You do have choices. Maybe if you post to this board and ask for the experiences of those who have used the surgeon you are considering, you may recieve advice that would make your choice easier.

Better to be POSITIVE in advance of such a life changing event than to look back later and be filled with regret. This is not something that you can afford to have doubt about.

Best Wishes with your decision.

I have considered three surgeons during my search. I invested about 200.00 and 6 mths in one Dr. in Decatur and he did nothing to help me with insc and stuff. Then a year or so later I find Dr. Facundus.I already have 550.00 invested in his office. I know alot of people that have used him. Maybe it is just the nerves getting to me I have wanted this for so long and this is the closest that I have ever came I am almost there..
