Question about B12 shots

My surgeon prescribed me to take one B12 injection per month.  I have heard from others who also take the shot, that they take it weekly.  I was wondering how many people actaully get their B12 via injection and how often they take them.  I was using the sublingual but didn't feel like it was helping and now I am wondering if I am getting enough taking my shots once per month.  I see my surgeon next month for my 1 year check up and he will be being a blood workup so we'll know for sure then.  I was just curious as to how often everyone takes their shots.

Hi, my doctor told me I was to have them every 3 months.  This is a very good question.

Hmmmm... I think I am going to x-post this onto the main message board since more people read over there.  I am very curious about this.

Depending on your levels you may need one weekly or monthly it depends on the individual I get one weekly but then again I do not absorb well and had to have them before surgerty due to my anemia.

Dear Sandi,
I have been to two doctors with different opinions. The first doctor told me to do it once a month.  He said that that the body can only take so much and the other is just passed thru the body.  The second let me take it weekly for a couple months, I FELT GREAT!!!! I personally could tell a huge difference when I got them weekly.  My friend also started getting them weekly and said he can tell huge difference.  Because of money I started going every two weeks, then monthly and now to the pills and patches.  There is no comparison between the capsules, patches, and the injections.  I have actually researched doing the injections my self.  If you can get them weekly or every two, I say do it.  I hope this helps.  Good LUCK!!

Of course we will know more once we get the results back from my blood tests, but I am going to ask him about weekly injections.  A friend of mine who uses the same surgeon said he told her to take them weekly, but then told me monthly...so it even varies from patient to patient with the same doctor.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi Sandi

I take B-12 shots every 2 weeks the Dr said it would not do any good to take them every week because my body would not use it. I give my own shots . I have Parnassus anemia and can not use the sub lingual, pills or patches it has to be an injection. I think most every one take it once monthly because that is how the DR. prescribes it..I can really tell when i need one because i get tired real easy and just don't have much energy.

That's how I feel...no energy.   I am getting sufficient sleep...minumum of 8 hours a night on a regular basis.  I am just dragging.  I just had one this morning and am hoping to notice more energy soon.  Any idea how long it takes to notice a difference or does it vary from person to person?
