Hello, I also am having the surgery with Dr. Engstrand, no date set,2 more appt.'s with my 6 month supervised diet, and then it goes for approval. I am very happy and comfortable with the biw, I never met such a nice dr. before, the whole crew there is understanding, and they want those ?'s brought to there attention to help out in any way they can. I love the fact they are soo thourough with there stuff, they make sure you have everything you need for during the process of the journey many of us are taking, I also love the fact that it took over an hr. in the office for the first actual visit, I went to another surgeon b4 going to dr. engstrand, and i wasn't in his office for more than 5 min. and i only had one option, the open rny, i didn't want to settle for the open, and also he said it was safer doing the open procedure, NOT!! so once i came to the biw the first impression i got was that they cared about US, the People who have always struggled with our weight, and the people who have struggled with medical issues following the weight, and the disgriminations we get from people, including dr's. because of our weight.  I knew i wanted to study and follow my research for this surgery, due to it being a very big surgery, and when I walked into that office and he asked ME what surgery I was thinking about having, and when I told him I wanted the ds, he looked at me and honestly said, i believe that is the best choice for you... and to know that in there history they have not had any fatalities ever, reasured me even more. I am scared because of it being such a major surgery, but I am excited to start my life with my new TOOL to help me gain my life back, the one i had yrs ago, only to know I have my beautiful boys, and my husband to root me on, to be at my side to help me on this journey so I can full fill the rest of my life healthy with them. I have been trying to get this for 7yrs, and I am finally so close to recieving a second chance of a life time..

shouldn't it be more about being healthy than how much more you can lose? Almost sounds like you are trying to prove your doctor wrong.

I am 9 months post op and have lost 157.3 lbs and my current weight is 160.2 :)

My surgeon has my goal at 140 to 150. Right now I have it set on my signature at 140. But I may change it to 130 when I get to the first goal. I have to see how I feel once I am there. I hope to be at goal by my 1 yr surgery anniversary on July 28, 2010

I had Dr. Siverhus. He was fabulous. My approval was pretty quick, but it all depends on your insurance and what other things you have wrong. I had high blood pressure and insulin resistance (PCOS). The staff is all fabulous, from the nutritionists to the nurses. I haven't personally spoken with Dr. Regan, but Dr. Siverhus is very compassionate, knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer your questions.

I had surgery with Dr. Wallace at Froedtert/Medical College. They have walked me through the whole process and we made a 5 year commitment to followup. Any issue I have they will help me deal with, but if it would be better service, they refer me to the specialists. They are a Bariatric Center of Excellence. I would at least go for an opinion. If you need to modify behaviors they will be honest about it, but if it is surgical they can evaluate that as well. I am three months out and had a few minor issues they worked with me, even when I showed up without an apt. Down 62 lbs already. They don't sugar coat things but they are honest and work with me on the facts not judging. I hope this helps.

I also had Dr Chua do my RNY on July 28, 2009 I am done 154 lbs now. I currently weigh 163.2 lbs I use to be at 317.5 lbs. He gave me my life back. I no longer take meds either. Just my supplements.

I highly recommend the support group once a month every 3rd Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm across the street from Aurora Sinai hospital in the heart instuite.

good luck

I am one week into my two week liquid diet and have found it fairly easy up to this point.  Don't get me wrong, I have issues too, but I have been able to curb any cravings/wants with Carnation Instant Breakfast.  April 27th will be the big day for me, and I cannot wait!

Dr. Chua!!!
I haven't even had my surgery yet, but hearing him talk at a seminar, and meeting with him in person at the patient consult, I will have no other surgeon! He truly cares about all his patients. You can see how genuine he really is. His entire staff is soo friendly and helpful. He operates out of Aurora Sinai Medical Hospital on 12th and State downtown Milwaukee.
He has been doing RNY for 30 some years and is really a pioneer is doing it laprascopically.
I can't explain to you how at peace I feel knowing that he is doing my surgery.
