I was not aware of any such list as no Dr. I have been to has anything like this for fear of having a HIPPA violation issue come up.

But thank you for letting me know that they do in fact exist. I can see where it would be a great help to those in similar situations.

I am not familiar with OP surgeon as I am in a different part of the state and have a different Dr. It is nice to learn some of the differences with other surgeons.

Dean health also offers a support group twice per month.  Every second Monday 6:30pm-8pm and the 4th Wednesday 11am-12:30pm.  The first part of the meeting is a speaker and the second half is peer to peer chit chat.  Both meetings are held at the Dean West Clinic.

Hello again everyone and thanks for your kind responses. Actually Dr Engstrand basically helped me come to the conclusion that the Sleeve is best way to go. I do not want the complications of the lap band, and my PCP concurs. She said she has received emergency calls from those who had lap band surgery issues.

I did attend my first support group at Elmbrook hospital, had my psychological eval, plus saw the psychologist which is required for 6 months. Doing a food diary and counting carbs, which the Endocrinologist recomends 60 carbs a day. THAT is a challenge but is helping. She is the one who told me I meet the criteria for bariatric surgery.

So..since I met with Dr Engstrand Nov 1st I am on my way. Oh yeah, he did my colonscopy too. That was a good way to start losing weight, LOL.

Hope to talk to some of you here again. I am on Obesity help forum for Gastric Sleeve a lot too.

Happy Thanksgiving folks..let me know how that holiday goes for all of you ok?

Actually, it is not against HIPPA regulations if they have a list of patients who have agreed to be contacted, as BIW has done.

It is a great resource to speak to people in person who have had the surgery, as the VSG is very different and less common than the lapband or RNY. I have gone to many support groups (with hundreds in attendance) and have yet to meet another VSGer. So it is a different situation than the more common surgeries, and it is very nice to speak to someone in your same shoes.

The office will not be able to give names of anyone who had the sleeve done as it would violate HIPPA and they would/could get into serious trouble for doing that.

But going to support group and asking questions there is an excellent idea.

Topic: RE: Badger Core Plan/ psych visit
Hi Mary,
I'm not sure if this is of any help to you...but here goes!

I had my pysch eval done in Milw. this past August. It was only a one time visit. The Dr. asked a bunch of questions as to what I thought was all involved in the surgery, how I would cope with certain aspects of my life, etc. Basically, all they want to know is if you completely understand this is a permanent change in lifestyle.

The cost was somewhere between $200-$250. My insurance paid most of the bill, I think I had a $30 co-pay, but because I didn't know if my insurance would cover it I remember thinking, "Hmmm...that's not too bad, I could have afforded that if I had to.", when I received the bill in the mail.

Hope that's of some help to you!
Best wishes!

Topic: RE: Any Dr Chua pts here?
Hi Julie,
I'm at about the same place in this journey as you. I just had my last NUT visit last week. Now waiting to hear from Dr. Chua's office about my consult and for the insurance company to approve.

I'd love to think I could get my VSG done before the end of the year (all my deductables for insurance are already paid), but I'm accepting that I probably won't get in until Jan or Feb.

I'm hoping to have the VSG, however I'll see what Dr. Chua suggests for me.

Best wishes!
Anne

Hi Jan,
I'm Anne and I'm in Mid-Central WI.

I just finished up my required NUT visits, and hope to get a surgery date soon. I'm planning on the VSG, however I haven't had my surgeon's consult yet, so I'll see what he suggests.

I'm have Dr. Chua for my surgery.

Best wishes on this journey.
