i was up and moving a little everyday, but went out purposely to exercise at week 2...it's only been a walk (treadmill, outside, mall) about every other day, but now it's been one month, and am heading to the gym/pool to start at least 4 days a week from now on.  hopefully to build that up to 5-6 days a week in a month or two.

good luck!

I walked until about 2.5 months out didn't have enough energy to do more than walk before then - round about then I started spinning three days a week it sucked at first - no energy, so building up was key.  Still can really take it out of me - I have to eat more to balance it out a bit.

Currently 180 - 76 lbs lost! Surgery 11/7/12, 36 years old, 5'8". I live in Hong Kong and it's a bit different here!

My surgeon cleared me for regular exercise at 4 weeks. I didnt start going back to the gym until 5-6 weeks. Before the gym I was only walking.

Hi there,

I had surgery on March 18th. They made me do small walks around the hospital floor for about 15 minutes every hour and let me tell you, I was not happy at all....

Once I got home, I was still having some serious pain. I'd say days 6-12 were horrible. I soon realized it was part healing, part gas and also getting used to not moving as much. I started walking around this past Sunday (March 31)  for about 30-40 minutes... slow, leisurely walks. Nothing too strenuous.

Start walking a little at a time.. 10-15 minutes- as long as you feel comfortable. Don't over do it and really listen to your body.

Good luck!!!!

I was cleared at day 10 for the elliptical, and caused a lot of pain doing it.  I walked until the end of the month, and then tried the elliptical again and it was Ok then.  Walking started immediately.

I walked 15 mins a day from the next day post op.  At about a week out I increased it to 30 mins a day 5 days a week.  Than a 3 weeks out or so I increased it to 45 mins to 1 hour a day 5 days a week.  By 2 months post op I started doing water areobics too.  So I either do that for about 90 to 100 mins or walk for 1 hour now.  (4 or 5 days a week of one or the other)  I'm 3.5 months post op now.
