I had orange juice...

I'm 12 days post op and if you read my first post i mentioned that I cannot get my fluids in because I'm just not hungry. Yesterday was the hardest day for me. I took my chewable multivatimin and felt sick all day long. At the end of the day I threw up. I felt absolutely horrible and super weak. A fried suggested I drink a little OJ (because i cannot drink anything else) and I just had about 1/2 a cup. I feel so much better! And energized! It was exactly what I needed. I know I shouldn't be drinking juice this early out, but it made me feel so, so much better. Is there any real harm from drinking OJ?

Yes. Sugar content. If you must have fruit juice, go for a diet version, like Trop 50 or the like. Also dilute your juice, don't drink it staight.

They gave us apple juice in the hospital immediately post surgery - once our leak test was done.  Juice isn't the issue.  I think pulp in OJ might be.

If you're having trouble getting calories and/or fluids in, I can't imagine clear juices being a no-no.  I'd stick to apple or grape maybe. Make sure no pulp...

Try diluted cranberry juice. Saved me those first few weeks when I went off plain water completely.

I am thinking that it isn't the calories or carbs but instead orange juice is high in acidity.  This can be very uncomfortable on the sleeve.  Also the added acidity doesn't exactly promote healing (I am guessing here but think I actually did read this somewhere once upon a time) and can cause acid reflux, heartburn, and nausea especially early on.  I think if it is possible you should stay away from the orange juice unless your surgeon clears you to drink it.

If you haven't been eating, then you probably got a sugar high. Don't depend on it. Try to find something to help to get in your fluids. My NUT said to not worry about vitamins right away and the top priority was fluids. Please take care of yourself.

I love crystal light but I do love lemonade. I think they make an orange/tangerine MIO. Try that if you were able to drink OJ so you can get in more clear liquids.

on the other hand, OJ is high in potassium and you probably needed that...   I think a glass here & there cant hurt but not daily..the sugar is counter productive and the acid could harm your pouch

My dr. Suggested sf cranberry juice. I hate cranberry juice so I found sf crangrape. Not bad.
