Topic: band to sleeve
I had to have my lapband removed a few days ago due to slippage and obstruction. i was banded on nov 12, 2009. apparently, my stomach was in too bad of shape (due to the obstruction)to reposition it and it had to be removed entirely. i awoke from surgery to learn this and have been pretty depressed and disappointed since returning home. I had very high hopes for the lapband and now i feel like i am at square one again. i am private pay, so that kind of stinks, but i am still hopeful that some type of wls will work for me. my experience was just bad fortune i think. my question is, has anyone else had to have a band removed and then a second surgery to get the sleeve? i know some people have the removal and sleeve done in the same surgery. sadly, this was not an option for me. how long were you required to wait between having the band removed and the vbg surgery? i think my doc is going to ask me to wait six months, but i won't know for sure for a few weeks. thanks for any input. originally, i was thinking of being rebanded (may sound odd, but the weeks following my surgery i loved the band and felt it worked well) But the more i read, i am concerned that i am at a greater risk for complications the second time around
Topic: Help
Hi,
I am new here, I had a VBG in 2001. I had about a 70 lbs wt loss with it. But ever since that surgery I have continued to have a constant pain in the "region" where the band is. And now I have gained 30 lbs back when I had my child...and not been able to lose it. I want the band and stuff "out". but can it just be taken out? or do they have to do some kind of revision? Anyone know? I am a military wife, so I am now no longer around the surgeon that did the first surg!
what do I do? just go to my primary care doctor and ask for a referral? and what do I expect? a whole new procedure? or just take the stuff out?
Thanks.
Emily

I haven't been on the board for a while but LOVE this post. I couldn't have said it better. With your permission, I would like to lift this and post on my refrigerator.
It is exactly the way I feel. My husband did not understand my logic for wanting this surgery. It's probably the first time in my 35 years of marriage that I've done something totally for me.
Thanks again for putting into words the way I feel.

Good Gawd Girl be gentile with yourself. 29days (uh not even a month) ago having an OPEN surgery - you are doing amazingly well! And walking on the treadmill. 2.4 mph is better than no mph! As someone already suggested make sure your protein is 60 (minimum)- 80 (max) grams daily and I started chewing Benefiber chews and I go everyday (sometimes 2x) but certainly not the same amount as before! hahaha I'm not completely full of s....well you get it! I buy the Benefiber that has Calcium and antioxidants...this way I get additional vitamins and minerals.
Good luck girl and don't rag on yourself so much....you are doing wonderfully. Peace~Eileen

Topic: RE: VBG to RNY or DS
I think that alot of people just aren't informed about the different procedures and go in whatever direction there surgeon guides them and since RNY is the flavor of the month and is what most sugeons do, thats the ways they go instead of being there own advocate.

Of course, you will see that I don't have one of my own on line. I am the only one in the family who takes photos and it's hard to take one of yourself with a large camera.
