I am not really worried either way. I have a very high pain tolerence. I still have the pain pills from when I broke my leg if I really need them. I am sure if you tell your pcp he will be supportive. Mine was a little concerned until he called down there and make some inquiries of his own, Now he is all for it. I am sure they will give you whatever they can.

I was told that they may not strong enough because they can not let you through the boarder with narcotic drugs like vicadin. Shirley told me that this morning and they are going to fax my doctor and explain that to him so he will write a prescription for a few days worth. I hope he does cause I think it will be easier to get through being sore.

Who says he does not give you a prescription for pain meds? I have not heard that before. If fact it seems that someone was saying they were taking their pain meds on the way home on the plane and had trouble swallowing it. Besides you can buy most of them otc at the pharmacys down there.

Topic: Sleeved Last Tuesday
I am finally sleeved.  I have one more night in the hospital then home tomorrow.

I am doing great, very little pain (except the biggest port hole).  I've walked three times today and I'm on clear liquids.

I can't wait to get my drain out and IV.

With VSG they totally remove the biggest part of your stomach.  Your stomach looks like a banana.

I chose VSG because with the lap band I didn't want a foreign object in me and I didn't want to deal with the potential problems (slippage, erosion etc) or deal with the port and have to back to get fills.

With RNY I didn't want the malabsorption and all the potential problems that come with (dumping, malnutrition, ulcers etc).

What I did want is my stomach smaller and get rid of the part of the stomach that produces the hunger hormone - grehlin.

VSG (in my eyes) is a much safer procedure with great results.

A lot of people are turned off by the permanency of it, but unless you are having severe problems they don't reverse either of the other procedures.  And with the RNY I haven't ever heard about someone getting it reversed.

I hear that Dr Almanza does not give pain medication to take home. I do not have a great tolerance for pain. I was wondering if anyones PCP gave you a prescription for Vicadan. I am not sure how my doctor is going to react period to me going to Mexico without consulting with him first. Right now I am trying to avoid telling anyone who will try and talk me out of this, which is all my family and some close friends. It took me a while to come to this decision and I had to take FMLA and an extended leave of absence from work just to get through all my mental issues about my weight and the added stress of work. Now that I have a few months off I want to do something for myself and get back on track. I am 61 years young and its time.
Thanks for listening

 Hey all,

I am a lap bander. I was just wondering if someone can explain to me what the main differences are between the lap band and the VBG??

Also, why did you choose the VBG over the lap band??

Thanks,
Rachel

Topic: RE: nausea after 5 weeks
I am four weeks out today and I am nauseous when I wake up in the middle of the night and in the morning too. I can't even think about getting anything down until around 9-10am. I wake up at 530am. I saw my doc yesterday for my one month post op visit. He wants me to take my nexium as soon as I wake up. I don't know if that will help. He gave me Zofran whick I put on my tongue and let it melt. It's hard to take when I'm so nauseous and it's not working. I would give your doc a call. Mine doesn't last all day  though.
