Hey guys, I want a Margarita and some Malibu Rum. I havent tried any drinks since the surgery and I know I have heard people talking about Margaritas on the board a while back. Is there some Sugar Free Mix or something. How would I go about making it? P.S I wasn't a big drinker before either...so my choices were always limited. Jennifer

sugar free margarita mix does exist. I think you can order it online. The margaritas I've had are from a restaurant here that uses fresh squeezed lime juice instead of a mix. They just use splenda in mine instead of their usual powdered sugar and they leave out the triple sec. I've also had one real margarita from there too. I drank it REALLY REALLY slow and made sure I ate a dense high protien meal first. I didn't get sick. You can make your own mix ahead using this recipe. just add the Tequila once you are ready to drink. (I'm making the mix ahead for the apple lemontinis and bringing it in a jug.) But use sugar substitute instead of sugar and leave out the Grand Marnier because it is a liquer. This makes four margaritas on the rocks. Pretty strong, so you may want to cut back on the liquor. INGREDIENTS 2 limes 1/4 cup white sugar 3 tablespoons water 1 cup premium tequila 2 tablespoons brandy-based orange liqueur (Grand Marnier®) 1 lime, sliced into rounds coarse salt DIRECTIONS Grate the zest of 2 limes into a small bowl. Cut the zested limes in half, and squeeze the juice into a measuring cup to get 1/2 cup. Combine lime zest, lime juice, sugar and water. Cover, and refrigerate for approximately 24 hours. Before serving, stir in the tequila and Grand Marnier. Rub rim of 4 glasses with sliced lime, and dip into salt. Take another slice of lime, cut in half, slice under skin of lime to halfway point, and place on glass for garnish. Can't wait to see you all again! Kathy

Leave it to Kathy to give you the best answer on Margaritas!!! I had a margarita at a local mexican resturant and it had sugar it in. The sugar didn't bother me but I got drunk as anything!!! Wow!!! The weird thing is you get drunk off so little, stay very drunk for a little while, and then Bam it's gone. No slow sobering up. Sugar doesn't bother me. Maybe you should try one before going out of town!!! Rachel

Hi Jennifer! When I was finally brave enough to try some alcohol, I started with some white wine, which I loved before surgery. (My middle name is Pino Grigio.) I also had light beer on another occasion. Tolerated both just fine. I used to love margaritas, but haven't had one yet, since I'm scared of the mixer, and too lazy to make one "homemade" (although that recipe Kathy posted is being printed out as I type this!). I have tried another favorite of mine though ... vodka & cranberrry. Ocean Spray makes a "Light" Cranberry juice drink that I use (has tons less sugar than the "real" stuff). I especially enjoy the White Grape & Cranberry (I think?) ... not sure about the flavor, but it's light in color and has Splenda in it. I've also been meaning to try my favorite Crystal Light flavor with my vodka ... I really love the Ruby Red Grapefruit flavor and that oughta work just fine with some Absolut. I never did really like that Malibu Rum ... smells like it should be rubbed on your skin while you're tanning! Go slow ... you're still not very far out from your surgery! Dawn
