I believe our PREOP booklet says you can have 1 cup decaf a day if you must. However, they really don't want you to have it. 1% milk and splenda or sweet and low. I dont know if equal is equivilent to those or not.

You should be able to take full fluids so there should be no problems but you should limit your self to two cups a day because the caffeine binds to the iron and keeps you from absorbing the iron so drink up and be careful

Hi Shelly, I was told NO NO NO..... by my surgeon..... lol, this was a big problem for me. We finally came to a compromise and they let me have mocha decaf sugar free hot beverage.... i cant think of the name of it.... (i have early onset of alzheimers i swear!) lol. anyway.... i will think of it once i press POST! lol. but i really wanted to drink the coffee.... i guess it is way too acidic for our pouch, if that is why? you could always 'test' it out if you MUST.... some might say....is it worth it??? i never did drink decaf even for fear that i would suffer and end up in his office and get 'that look' do you know what i mean?? eventually i did have coffee again. i suffered greatly though, when i woke up in the hospital with a migraine and i swear it was because i didnt wean myself off of the caffeine.... i wish i had now. jess
