I paid my fee to Dr Bour a little over a week ago, having been told by people I know that have had this surgery done that I could claim it on my FSA, and now my administrator is denying my claim...Poor Lacey, she is truly the very best, she has worked so hard with my company, but they wont budge in submitting it..anyone else have this problem?? This was my tax money and I was expecting it back within 2 weeks to pay off some nagging bills!

Hi Melissa! I was able to use my FSA for my surgery. I paid Dr. Bour and submitted the receipt and received my check. Do you have the list of claimable things from your FSA? I would certainly check into that. Melissa

I have submitted everything and they wont even submit it for approval.... , they are saying "I'm sorry to add to your stress level. I think a lot of confusion comes from your relating WHEN things are reimbursable through filing your taxes and WHEN things are reimbursable through FSA. When you claim something on your tax return, the amount you claim depends on how much you paid. It doesn't matter whether the services have already been done or if they occurred in a previous year. With FSA, the driving factor for reimbursement is the Date of Service. We can't reimburse until the service has occurred. What you are quoting below explains the medical expenses that are reimbursable on your tax return. They are also reimbursable through FSA, we just have to wait until you start the treatment. As for the people you've been talking to, I would have to know their individual situations to understand how or why they were reimbursed." and... "Hi Melissa. I'm sorry if you feel like you've been given the run-a-round. That was not our intention. There is a fine line with Bariatric surgery between being elective and being necessary for health reasons. Our first objective was to make sure it was a necessity. We also cannot reimburse prepayments. FSA reimburses based on when the service was done, not when you paid for them. Once you actually start the program and make your visits to the doctor, then you need to file the claim with the insurance company. Once you get the Explanation of Benefits from the insurance company, we can then reimburse you what the insurance does not cover. We are not trying to keep you from getting your money back. There are just certain requirements and paperwork that we need before we can reimburse you. Once again, I apologize for the hassles this is causing you. We just need to make sure that you have incurred the expenses before we reimburse you for them. If you have any other questions, or problems, let me know,"

Bariatric surgery an elective?!?!? Yeah, that's why you see doctor's performing WLS on those people that only have 20 pounds to lose and no co-morbidities...morons. I hate everybody today. But now I hate your FSA administrator too. Kathy
