Has anyone had any anxiety issues shortly after surgery? I feel like I am coming out of my skin. I know it is not from pain medicines because I haven't had them since I left the hospital. This started a few days ago. I cannot sleep and my mind will not shut off. Please anyone tell me what to do...Going nuts here.

I didn't have any anxiety issues really after surgery except for me morning the loss of food. That didn't last too long. However, with all the stuff going on in my life now, my doctor put me on 1 mg of ativan at night and 0.5 during the day. IT has helped tremendously. I don't know what you feel about taking medicine but I'm all for it, if it helps. Rachel

I know when I was a week or two out, I had some insomnia issues. I linked it to the fact that all I did was lie around and sleep for those first few weeks after surgery. Your body MAY be telling you it has slept enough for right now. That in turn may be turning on the anxiety. Start getting up and moving around, if you have not already. Even if it is only an hour at a time. Now, I am in no way an expert. I know the insomnia thing hit me after my knee surgery and after WLS surgery because all I was doing was lying around. Once I got moving around and back to work, I felt better. Call Dr. Byrne's office and talk to them. They will be able to help! I hope this helps. Julie

HI Jennifer! Sorry to hear you are having some problems. You should probably talk to your doc. We go through so many emotions with this surgery. You body is in shock. There are so many things happening to it right now. This surgery can bring up other issues. For most of us we were always able to cope with our problems using food..Now we have to find other means of coping. That is very stressful. Talk to your doc. You may need a mood stabilizer/ antidepressant ( Celexa, Lexapro, etc.) or antianxiety ( xanax, valium, etc.). Anyway, talk to your doc, I am sure he can help!!! Good luck~~ Melissa

I'M SURE ANY KIND OF EMOTIONAL UPHEAVAL COULD EASILY OCCUR BECAUSE WHEN YOU LOSE A LOT OF WEIGHT QUICKLY, YOU RELEASE A TON OF HORMONES, YOU JUST FLOOD YOUR SYSTEM WITH THEM. FOR OVER A MONTH, I TURNED INTO THE WICKED WITCH OF THE EAST; I COULD HAVE KILLED I WAS SO ON EDGE ... JUST ABOUT THE TIME I WAS GONNA GO BACK TO THE DOC, IT ALL SETTLED DOWN. I HAVE AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT IN MY PROFILE IF YOU'D LIKE TO READ IT, IT'S CALLED "WHY ARE WE SOOOOO EMOTIONAL? & IT IS LOCATED AFTER MY 11-11-2005 POSTING. GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk
