Update on cousin

Doesn't sound like he is doing too well. Apparently it was a "drug bust." at my cousins house. He was shot in the BACK of the head. Apparently, they were pointing the gun at his sister who was holding her baby. She said "Please don't shoot me." He turned around for some reason and the cop shot him. They found no drugs, guns or anything illegal. I know many of you cannot identify with me, but I was raised not to trust police officers. In that area we've had cops pulling over women and raping them. WE've had some taking bribes. When I worked there during the summer, I would regulary listen to them talking about how they would stop women because they were just good looking. I also know of one cop in particular who was sleeping with at least 3 underage girls in my high school. As a matter of fact, I used to hang out at the firehouse with a couple of firefighters/sheriffs deputies that my friends were dating. I was probably 16 then. I also watched them arrest the county DA for taking bribes from people with DUIs to let them off. I rememebr hiding from the news cameras becasue that is when I worked at the police department. So everyone is at the hospital now and they can't get the bleeding in his brain to stop. I'm sick of this. There are alot of places in this country where you aren't safe from anyone...and I can promise you it is still because of the color of your skin. I could go on and on, but I am exhausted. Kathy

My prayers are with you and your family. Things like this happion to often and it is time that it is reconized for what it is. Growing up with only hispanic friends I have seen it alot. I know this is in the back of your mind but has your family gone to the media yet? Sometime it is helpful trying to give horrible situations a reason. How old is you cusion? Best wishes and prayers. Thanks everyone for your prayers. It is only getting worse as the day goes on. Yes they have gone to the media. He's 19 I think. It seems that they were looking for someone else. They were awaken from bed. The only people in the house were him, his two sisters (20 & 21) and the 4 year old and 2 year old grandchildren. Everyone else had left for work. They may have been looking for someone else. Along with him, there is a 17 and 18 year old brother too. They had left for school and work already. Big big family, wiht teenage boys. Plus all their teenage MINORITY male friends. The cops were spooked I guess. The sad part is that my 4 year old is hearing me talk about it with my family (I didn't realize that she was listening) and I can't explain to her why the police shot our cousin. Now she's afraid that the cops are going to shoot her daddy at work. And she wants to know why the cops were angry with him, and wants me to make sure that they don't come to south carolina. Ugh. I don't want my daughter to grow up with the same distrust I did. I know this isn't the norm. But what do I say? Kathy

Kids are so much briter than we give them credit for. All I can say is that you could sit her down and talk to her. Explain that what happoned was a bad thing and we may never understand why but that the police (to reinsure her trust) will try to figure it out. Let her know that with everything there are good and bad but not to worry. I remember my mother helping us get over a fear of losing someone by making a "magic" charm for them to wear. Help you daughter make a little trinket for her dad to keep with him to "keep him safe". I feel so bad if you need any help let me know. Cari

OMG Kathy, I am so sorry. I know I have been out of it a little lately, but I feel like I have missed so much. Where did you come from? Unfortunately, there are people out there in this world that don't want any other life than to be miserable and make others lives miserable. I have always loved from the inside out. Why can't people accept and let themselves be accepted the same. Please put your arms around your shoulders and feel the big hug I am sending to you. I will be praying for your family. Deb
