hey Donna, I took a couple of really large drawstring pj pants and they were a God-send with the hosp. gowns. You will gain lots of fluid, and the pj pants will be more comfortable than trying to tie a robe around you with an IV bag. I just did the pj pants and the hosp gown and walked, walked, walked!!! I got mine at Target, like 2X and 3X...when I was back home they did great too for holding up my drain tubey thing and tied it to them I suggest flip flops for going to the bathroom and walking... If you have an IPod, that was a good thing Chapstick is a good thing I also did love my pillow better, and I used about 3 total for me, to prop up with and one for my hubby, so take lots of pillows. I also took a shower when I was there!!! They were shocked, but I felt so much better, so a travel size of shampoo and conditioner and your hairbrush and if you have longer hair, a scrunchy was worth it. I took just a small bag and lots of pillows and I have to admit, I did use a little eyeliner cause I felt better and did not look so dead! Just PJ pants and some big Tshirts or regular shirts to go home in and use the hosp. gowns cause you will leak/bleed some and rather get their's dirty than yours!! You will do great, just remember God is with you, and lots of people are praying for you!! God Bless and keep us informed!!! I am in CA now, but still use the SC board. Love ya!! Good Luck and Blessings! Deb

The most helpful for me were a long handled wooden spoon to help wipe when you can't "get back there" along with Cottonelle wipes. I took my robe but only used it once. It was too hot and heavy. I just asked for a second gown and put it on backwards...that way everything was covered. Chapstick is a must... If I think of anything else I will let you know...

I remember they asked us to bring house shoes that covered the heal. You will not be walking "normal" right after surgery and they were afraid I would slip out of "slip on" type shoes.

Hey Kelly, Thanks for the tips. My brother had Dr. Strickland 3 years ago. He lost from 377 to 215. Said he feels like a different person. I can't wait until I can say the same thing!! Thanks again, Donna
