Hey everyone. I guess I just need a pick me up. I have GREAT insurance with my husband's company. Thing is, my husband wants me to have this surgery only because I want to have it. If it were up to him, I would stay this way forever. He's very supportive and basically just wants it so I am happy. Well, he has been having a REALLY bad time with his work lately. He has been there 15 years. But he is ready to leave. He has gotten a job offer somewhere else making more money and it would be indoors (now he is outdoors) but, the new insurance won't pick up for 90 days and I don't even know if they cover wls. I am going to my first NUT class tomorrow and have my cardiac clearence Friday. I guess my problem is that I want m husband to get the better paying job that he would be happier doing BUT I want this surgery too. Any ideas? Jodie

Hi Jodie, Would it be possible for your husband to cobra his insurance plan at his current job until after you have the surgery. I bet if you tell your surgeon's office the dilemma they will work with you. I know it will work out. My husband was the same way as yours. He was happy with the same thing and probably a little bit afraid of changes. Now that I've lost over 100 pounds, he is VERY happy with the changes. Good Luck Mary

Hi! Thanks for responding! I know he will LOVE the outcome! What does cobra mean? I was thinking of telling the surgeon's office tomorrow. Jodie

When you leave a job, whether voluntary or unvoluntary, you have the option of paying for your insurance program out of your pocket for a period of time, I think that the time period is at least 6 months, which should be plenty of time for you.

Hi Jodie!!! I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. I would just check on Cobra and see if the other insurance covers WLS. Hopefully, everything will work our just fine. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!!! Keep us posted. Melissa

Poor thing....Bless your heart.... I understand. My husband was not really happy at his job and I was worried about the same thing....but...I begged him to stay until at least after my surgery. Turns out things are better and he is happier. However, he had not gotten an offer like your husband with more money and better arrangements!! I think you need to get him to find out who the insurance is with for the new job and call them. They may still cover it with better benefits! It not, I would check with cobra too and see if you could get that. It is pretty expensive though but it may be worth it in the end. Keep me posted. Rachel

Thank you guys for your input. I went to meet him for lunch and I think that he is going to stay until the surgery. I feel kinda bad because I don't want him to resent me everyday he is out there sweating his butt off! But, I do feel as though we will BOTH be glad I did this! I just wi**** could happen sooner than later, ya know? I do plan on talking to the Dr's office tomorrow about all that is going on. Who knows~maybe they have experienced things like this before and they know what to tell me! I hope so! Thanks again! You guys are the best! Jodie

i agree you should check into cobra. you can have the best of both worlds. cobra is expensive but this surgery is soooooo worth it. check with the new employer's benefit department. they will know.

I agree with the others. You should check on COBRA. This allows you pay to extend your insurance coverage until your new insurance kicks in. They are required to offer it to you. This accomplishes both goals. You're allowed to get the surgery covered and your husband is allowed to take the new job, working indoors and making more money!
