I am so craving a soda. I know he does not like us to have them unless they are flat. Does that change the further you are out? Has anyone drank an unflat soda, diet of course? I am just curious. I do not go back to see him until Sept. when it will be my 6 mth check up. Thanks for any feed back. Julie

Of course I've pushed the button. I have taken a sip, let it roll around in my mouth and get the carbonation out before I swallow it. It doesn't taste the way I remember it so I don't like it anymore. Good Luck Mary

My sister-in-law is a patient of Dr. Byrne. She has been drinking carbonated Diet Mountain Dew from the first day she was home from her surgery. She lived on it at the beginning. It didn't seem to bother her at all. She has not been very successful with her weight loss and has not attained her goal weight due to poor eating habits. Though I'm sure the carbonation didn't actually keep her from losing weight, it's just an example that she started out with a less than stellar attitude. We don't discuss her eating habits when we meet for breakfast and she pours puddles of real syrup on her Belgium waffles. And she's a diabetic too. I'm just glad I'm not her when she goes for her follow-ups with Dr. Byrne. I, personally, have only tried a sip of carbonated drink and didn't like it. I still follow all the rules at 20 months out, except for drinking with meals. I do drink a little bit, because otherwise, it doesn't want to go down. I am really dedicated to making this work for the rest of my life. If I make some choices that aren't so good, I just do better the next day. I stick to a pretty boring, very low-carb diet - no bread, pasta, rice, or potatoes at all. Very little fruit. I'm still diabetic, so I stick to protein and salads. However, the smell of popcorn drives me crazy and I do splurge every once in a while! I don't think that carbonation is really "evil", especially in small doses. I think it would be more of a gas/comfort issue than a stretching possibility. The stomach is a very strong muscle. If I was craving it that badly, I'd give it a try - a few little sips can't hurt you. A lot of people say it doesn't taste the same. I know of one lady, though, who LOVED Pepsi and started back with Diet Pepsi, but then started cutting it with half regular Pepsi. I lost track of her, but it just seems a shame that she was headed back in that direction. Well, my 2 cents worth turned into about $2.00. Love, B

Hi Julie Since we are not allowed to have alcohol , when I go out with my friends I will order a water and a diet coke with lots of ice. I let it go very flat and I sip it very slowly. Draught coke is much flatter than canned coke anyway. I boo boo'd one night I realized after 30 minutes that I was using a straw oops...but I didn't get any tummy pain or any extra gas so I guess it was okay i hope this helps lesley
