Ok...Need your honest answers...Did any of your diet before your surgery??? I am enjoying too many last suppers, lunches, breakfasts, and all that. I keep thinking well enjoy it now, because I might start optifast as soon as mid August...depending on my insurance approval. Will I lose less weight if I gain 10 extra pounds before surgery? Rachel

Hi Rachel I can only tell you what I did. My dr. put me on Atkin's for a month and a half before surgery so I could greaten my chances of having my surgery done lap. I lost 23lbs before surgery. I did have a last hoorah dinner the night before surgery, but I was so nervous, I couldn't eat! I did have a few bites of the Chocolate Thunder from Downunder...and it was heavenly. lol I did gain a lb or two from that...but all was good. I am so glad now, that I worked hard to lose before surgery...I wanted to give myself a good headstart, and not sabbotage myself like all the other times. This time, the lbs are going for GOOD. Best of luck to you, Rachel!! I pray all goes smoothly for you as surgery approaches! ~Elizabeth

Hi Rachel!! Yes, Dr. Bour will put you on Optifast for 4 weeks before surgery. I think many people went through the last supper bit. From all your posts I am afraid that you think your "food life" is going to be over after this surgery. It is not. There are many things that you will be able to enjoy after surgery. The way you eat WILL change , but you will still enjoy many of the things you enjoy now. I haven't had a problem with anything that I have tried. Now, I haven't tried anything like candy or cake, but I am able to go out to eat at my favorite restaurants and enjoy myself. You have to think of this as a new beginning...the beginning to LIVING your life the way you were meant to live it. NOT the end of eating. You will still eat, but now you will eat to LIVE!!!! I hope this helps!!!! Melissa

Thank you so much for your response. Is it that obvious that I worried about my "food life"? I guess this just shows you how controlled my life is by food. I can't imagine it any other way. Every diet I have ever tried was miserable and a constant struggle. It was like if it taste good "don't eat it." I am just scared of failure again. I am sure that all of you can relate. Thanks again, Melissa for being so insightful! It's nice to know someone can figure me out!! Thanks again. Rachel Knox

Hi Rachel I'll chime in here. I'm the one from California. Our program required that we lose 10% of our body weight before we would qualify for surgery. Ah mee...... Well, I started thier program(UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento) the last of May '05 and started right away on dieting like I really meant it. We had to keep food journals and our dietician checked them on a regular basis. Well, it took me till August to get all the "other" testing done and for me I had a lot of tests to do. FINALLY I had everything done and the Docs reviewed my case and decided I was serious about the whole thing. No Duhhhhhh..... So I got a surgery date, but on the day of my surgery I STILL had only lost 20 pounds. I think I like it better the way your docs do it. Much more realistic. All I can say is that this is still a business and they WILL take the money. About the "last"supper. Well, I never got one. Waahhhhhh!!! My surgeon surprised me by adding me to the schedule at the last minute. Late Friday afternoon. With surgery on Monday. So I had to start the prep the next morning. Don't regret a second of it. Good luck my dear. Nancy from Calfornia
