General workout question

Just something that's been on my mind lately here. I have never had issues with cardio workouts, but I have never been big on muscle training. I have wanted to start some and maybe even some yoga (at 39 I realize I have no flexibility at all). But my question is this, what concerns should I have about losing weight quickly? The reason I ask is I am almost 9 years out from my surgery. I can lose weight pretty quickly, but I fear that if I add in muscle training too that I will lose weight so quickly that I may lose muscle mass and thus defeating the purpose.

Should I try to add in more calories? Anyone who has run across this, please give me a heads up on how you handled it.

If you start lifting weights vigorously, or any new workout regimen, you are not going to lose at all. You will almost certainly gain some. I'd bet money on it.

Well I do need to lose about 20 to 25 lbs. I had knee surgery recently and sat on my tail eating horrible food for a few weeks. But I just always worry about losing muscle mass when the whole point is to build it.

Grim, I'm almost at my stretch goal and been thinking about starting to tone some with weights. Reading this scares me. Any way to do that without packing on the pounds?

If you trying to lose weight as you are building muscles - I would concentrate on proteins making sure my body has building blocks to make new muscles.

I still try to get about 50 to 60 g of protein a day. I guess that's what I should be doing. Sometimes I do find it hard but it has been doable. But thanks for the tip, I will try to maintain protein intake and see if that helps.

To build muscles - I would take 100-150 gr of protein per day.

50-60 - is just bare minimum for body function.

I had read similar, but that's a lot and I honestly dont know that I can get in all of it. This program I am looking at for working out utilizes kettebells and is only about 40 minutes 4 days a week. So that seems like a lot of protein for that amount of working out.

if you want to build muscles - you need proteins.

I don't need to build muscles - but to maintain - my weight and my muscles - I need 80-100 gr per day. If I get less than that - my blood level drops.

Are you saying though that I would need to take in that much everyday, or just on days of working out? I weight about 240 right now. I know I can drop 20 lbs easily with just some cardio, and that's when I really want to start trying to build muscle.
