Heartache

Last night I lost my workout buddy to a massive heart attack, suffered while he was at the gym doing the very thing that we were trying to decrease the odds of happening. In 2013, we started this journey and kept on track as best we could. Both of us found success with the process overall and committed to cleaning up our health. We both have had our setbacks (injuries, peripheral health issues arise, schedules, etc.) but always managed to get back on track. Recently, he re-committed to the healthier lifestyle and was doing well.

Often it was joked that we shared a brain, we were that close. He encouraged me throughout this WLS process (and was quite possibly more fascinated by it than even I) and I had his support from day one.

He was not only one of my closest dear friends, he was my boss and my professional mentor. We worked together, frequently vacationed together, our familes were (and are) intertwined, and we had coffee or broke bread together too many times to count.

He was always willing to take on more than he could handle, be it professionally or personally. He carried a lot of burdens with him as a result, but always wore his heart on his sleeve.

He was a great man and will be missed. My heart is absolutely shredded today.

Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.

I am truly sorry for your loss

Please though, do not eat your feelings. Not saying you will, but the temptation will be there.

Thanks for the thought. I'm good that way, we talked extensively about this, he and I, as well as all the tools learned in the pre-op social work classes. I was never a depressed eater (and right now I couldn't stuff myself if I tried, I suppose). I made sure to put the support structures in place in the last 14 hours.

Thanks again

Carl Ray - I am crying for you, truly I am. I totally understand. My bestie, Tracey, has been battling Leukemia, since October-so freakin' unfair-I would take her place in a half-second...

It is up to YOU, now, to carry on, for BOTH of you...to see the GOALS, for the both of you, come to fruition...Sounds like HIS family is going to need a male figure head, just like your own family already needs you...

I encourage you to also take time to GRIEVE, while you are being strong for EVERYONE ELSE...even it's just here...

Even the strong among us need help, sometimes

It's a pretty tough day here at the office. I thought it best to come here and help with those that might need to talk. So far the coffee pot has been running non-stop, talk is happening and it's good.

So, sorry for your loss. My husband's best friend is also his boss. And our families are very close too. I can't imagine losing him. Take time to grieve. And be kind to yourself.
