One month away!
Very cool Wags, My surgery is June 6th. Feels weird as the time gets closer. I'm leaning toward RNY, mainly because I want to put a stop to my diabetes, but want to talk to the surgeon before I commit to RNY or VSG. Like you I am excited and yes fairly nervous about how things are going to go. I went to the store tonight and started getting my vitamins. Haven't figured out what protein supplement I'm going to use. There are so many to choose from.
Anyway, good luck to you, hope to follow your progress.
I decided on RNY pretty easily, mostly because of dumping syndrome. I know it's not guaranteed that it will even happen to me, but I need something to physically stop me from eating foods high in fat and sugar...that's mainly how I gained so much weight. The 20% chance that my reflux will get even worse with the sleeve was a major turn off as well. We will have to check in with each other since our surgeries are so close to each other!

RNY on 06/05/17
I know RNY has better documented long term results. VSG seems to me like it's a temporary solution. And I know RNY can be temporary as well as I have a good friend who had RNY about 15 years ago and has gained back all of her weight. But with a VSG the only physical change made is that the recipients stomach is smaller. Again, I'm fairly well slanted toward RNY and am about 80% sure that is what I'm going to ask for. It's extremely effective in reversing Type 2 diabetes and the results are well documented. That is actually the main reason I'm having the surgery. Not that losing 75 to 90 lbs won't be great. That will put me back to the weight I was when I was in the Army 30 years ago.
I will watch for your updates and post my own. Take care
