Morning all -

I am going to my dad's today. My brother and his family will be there, so I am excited to see my nieces. I will be glad to see my brother and my SIL too...lol. My sister's middle daughter is also coming, so I'm looking forward to visiting with her too. It should be a very nice day.

QOTD: I am still early in my weight loss journey, but after losing 98 pounds I notice that I am able to do alot more than I used to be able to. One example - It seems like I can walk forever and not get out of breath or have to stop and rest.

Menu -

B - Protein Shake

L - Green Chili cheese puff

D - tuna pouch

S - Cottage cheese

Calories - 540, Protein - 72, Carbs - 18

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Hello from the hospital, again! I am here trying to stop my father from killing a nurse (or two), lol. He's a barrel of laughs when he is feeling vulnerable, so this is tons of fun for everyone. Hahaha.

But actually he is doing okay, and will likely be transferred to a rehab facility on Monday or Tuesday so that he can continue to get occupational and physical therapy before coming back home.

My eating has been just terrible. I am being carb heavy instead of protein forward, and I am not eating or drinking enough at all because it is hard to do with the mask on. I'm still being better than I would have pre-op and I am proud to say that I am not stress eating at all...but I still know that I am not following my own plan and it frustrates me.

QOTD: Some days it still hasn't sunk in. I look at clothes in my size and think there is NO WAY those will fit, and then they will be big. It's weird. But my mom often tells me that she doesn't recognize me from behind, and I certainly feel allot lighter on my feet when I am running, which is a huge win. Oh, and the knee pain when sleeping is SO REAL!

Congrats on getting to your lowest adult weight! That's fantastic :)

Here is my plan for today, such as it is...

B: Protein Coffee

S: Starbucks Iced Coffee with whole milk

L: Cheese Stick and Almonds

S: Trader Joe's oven baked cheese bites

D: No idea!

Vitamins: patches on

Exercise: still nothing :(

You look like a bad a$$ bandit.

Would straws help you drink without taking off the mask? I know my bariatric team discouraged straws because you end up getting more air with your liquids, but if you're not drinking a lot I would think it might we worth an exception.

I'm glad to hear that your father is improving even if he is picking on the nurses.

Do your best to take care of yourself too, although I can totally relate to having difficulties when caring for someone else.

You are in our thoughts!

It's great news that your dad is continuing to improve! I know it stinks and it's a real struggle trying to eat protein forward when your in a hospital that doesn't promote healthy eating! You would think that the doctor's and nurses that live a healthy lifestyle would push the hospital for better food choices. Hang in there JB and just do your best.

Glad your dad is making a recovery but feel I need to chime in on the healthy food choices in a hospital environment. I cannot speak for doctors but nurses have the worst life style!

As a nurse I can tell you that the reality of patient demands and short-staffed units means we are lucky to get five minutes to ourselves. We tend to put our patients' needs first before we sit down, go to the bathroom, or grab a bite to eat. At the end of the day, we're exhausted there is no time for the gym or to prepare a healthy meal.

On a 12 hour shift We are lucky if we pee once and get maybe a 5 minute break. In fact a visit to the restroom and a crumbled energy bar are normally our only respite from the demands of the job. By the end of shift most nurses are dehydrated, tired and stressed. If the food choices are there, they are overpriced, poor protein choices and normally we run on empty for 14 hours including transit and unpaid transfer of accountibilty or charting.

I am reading and planning all I can for a return to this after surgery and hoping protien smoothies will sustain me on work days. And I am searching for high protein healthy snacks that will sustain me on a busy shift. There are many restrictions as they need to be portable and unobtrusive as food and drinks are frowned upon by infectious diseases and management outside of our untaken break times.

That has to be very difficult for all of you nurses out there. I was an EMT for 13 yrs and was planning becoming an ER / ED nurse however I sustained a very serious cervical injury cutting off 90 % of my spinal cord. My neurosurgeon said he had no idea why I was able to walk and I should be a quadriplegic. It was miracle I was able to walk. I had a c4-c5 cervical vertebrectomy fusion done. It ended my EMT career and it took a good 2 years to heal. I changed my career to working with people that have intellectual disabilities. I have so much respect for all the hard work that nurses do and your commitment to your patients. Thank you for what you do!! :)

As for nutrtion, once you are on solid foods a really good option to look in to would be Ostrim meat sticks. Check out https://nutmegstatenutrition.com/product-category/ostrim/ You can also find them on Amazon and other places.

There are really good protein powders and drinks out there. Do a search on the boards. I like Dymatize and Isopure brands.

You are a stylish mask wearer. Not everyone can pull off that look.

It's hard to knock off a nurse. I'm glad he's getting better.

Happy Saturday! Currently on the road to the beach for the day. Kinda spur of the moment-hop in the car and let's go(after packing my foods of course).

QOTD: I don't know if I had a "moment". There have been things along the way but then there times I still don't "see" it. I know we've said it over and over again, but I wish they could fix our brains at the same time as they do our stomachs.

Menu: B: latte, boiled egg, string cheese and 1/2 an organs L: TBD (something at the beach!) S: latte, yogurt and jerky D: TBD depending on whether we are at home by then or on our way but my guess is grilled chicken.

E: 40 mins elliptical and an hour on the stair master

W/V on track

Hope you all have a great day.
