Adding soy can cause gas - it adds more fiber to your diet.  I personally LOVE soy milk!1 I buy the kind that comes in the septic carton.  You can get it at Stop and Shop or Shaws sometime maybe Daves Markets.  I know that SUper Walmart in Coventry sells it too.  It is Soy Slender.  Sugar free! It comes in Coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. I have only seen coffee at one place and I want to say it is stop and shop...

I also use unsweetened plain soy milk, silk brand, or Lite Vanilla silk.

I like to mix half soy with half regular milk.  I think it gives the best taste.  I do that when I make a shake or drink it plain.

I got my new date!!! December 8th!! Have to be on liquids the week before Thanksgiving, but that's ok - there will always be something - right?? I am still not convinced this is going to happen since I was cancelled so close to the date last time, but I am trying to be optimistic and hope for the best!

I like 8th Continent Light Chocolate.  Unfortunately, my Shaw's doesn't carry it any more.  Didn't really notice any associated gas.

Topic: Experience with Soy Milk?
Thought I would ask around...

Does anyone have experience with soy milk as a base for protein shakes?  Any suggestions as to brand/flavors?  Any associated gas (couldn't imagine there would be, but....)?

Thanks,

Andrew

Lessons Learned:

1.  Dont count on hospitals having extra fans to place in patient rooms.  If you think you are going to need a fan, plan on bringing your own.  The hospital's maintenance department will have to check it out, but its better than going without.

2.  When you think you have to fart, make sure you are on the toilet.  Enough said.

3.  Pain is what the patient says it is.  Everyone tolerates pain differently.  Lap Band pain is no different than bypass pain.  It could be more, it could be less.  Pain is pain.

4. Abdominal distention sucks big time.  No matter how many miles you walk, it will stay distended until it makes up its own mind to move.  WHen that happens, see #2 above.

5.  Liquid protein sucks - no matter what flavor, what product, what wretched smell.  Nothing is especially appetizing after surgery - even 6 days out.

6.  Sometimes, you just cant do protein every day.  Take a rest, stay hydrated, tomorrow will be better.

7.  For those with known or unknown "milk" intolerances....be certain to try out milk-based proteins shakes (any whey protein) and/or products (Carnation Instant Breakfast) before surgery.  If they give you GI trouble before surgery - it'll come back to slap you in the belly 3-fold after surgery.

That's about it for now.
