Feeling let down by the system

Looking for some advice, or even encouraging words.

my first referral was in 2007, and my appointment wasn't until 2010 at the Ottawa hospital. They were nice, and wanted me to wait a year, but a few months after that appointment I seperated from my husband. I was so focused on that that I didn't realize that I hadent heard back for my second appointment.

After things settled I had my Dr send in another requisition in Sept 2013. .... And radio silence.

I what was going on and kept being told that I had to just wait it out.... Nothing. Never heard a thing.

i finally got upset with my Dr. And said its been a year and a half, WTH! So another requisition went in.

my Dr. Was going to call to find out what happened to the last one, but her secretary said she is too busy, so I did. I found out through Western calling the OBN that it's with Humber, but they keep just telling me they will call me back, and don't.

i don't want to wait another 6-9 months to start the process again, I've been waiting 7 years. I can't keep hearing doctors telling me to be patient, I have been, perhaps too patient.

I just have a feeling I won't be approved and I don't want to hang in the balance any longer. I just feel so let down by the system, especially my own dr shoes receptionist said she was too busy to call the OBN and check the status! :(

any my words of wisdom?

I'm sorry that you've had to go through this.  I know that in 2010, they changed processes in Ottawa as that's about the time OHIP stopped paying for out of province surgery. It was about in the spring when they started the new processes.  I'm not sure when the Bariatric Registry stopped taking faxes, but that might have been the cause of the delay (Dr. now has to do it online).

If the Bariatric Registry has you in Humber, then I'm guessing you've moved in between.  Perhaps someone from Humber could give you a suggestion as to what the timelines are there (I was with Ottawa, so not sure about Humber).  I know that this is a hurry up and wait process, but you've done more waiting that you should to get started IMHO.

If you haven't called Humber, call and make sure that they do have your file, as well as ask for a general idea as to what the timelines are.  Some of the appointments may have cancelation lists, some won't.  Start researching everything you can, and be ready.

May your journey start speeding up.

I just spoke with the person at Humber that I needed to speak to and she was great. The number OBN gave isn't for me haha. They don't have any of my filesso they are now calling the ministry to sort it out.

hopefully this will sort things out.

It sounds like you are getting on track.  Sometimes it just takes getting the right person to talk to!
