Liquid diet
I didn't have to do a liquid diet prior to my WLS (thank goodness), but my heart always goes out to those of you who do it. You'll be in my thoughts.

It is hard, no doubt about it, but probably after tomorrow it will start getting a little easier. Good luck at the party, BUT, you have to go with your priorities. I would imagine that the party is pretty important, but is the liquid diet before your surgery and not putting yourself in a position where you might be tempted to cave in more important? Nobody can answer that but you. I personally would have to tell the family that I couldn't handle the situation and please excuse me, and then send a gift with another member of the family. Just an option. Michael.
My problem is that about now....I would be thinking icing could be considered a liquid....but that is why I am on here.....Take drinks with you or even put broth in a insulated cup to take....Look at it this way...There are alot of people at the party who might be watching to see just how strong your control is during this party. Even if they don't know...pretend they do for now.....Show them that your priorities are right on track...Then sweetie, realize that when this is over...it's over!! You will never have to worry about parties again. You probably won't crave cake or sweets anymore. Not only that...But after that party...You day will be here!!!...So it's one weekend towards your new life! Remember too, that Popcicles, jello, broth, teas and different non carbonated drinks are all liquids. Mix it all by having lots of different stuff and stay busy!!!!! Clean out drawers, closets, rooms....anything to stay busy all the time! Of course I am only on the warm up bench so I don't know for sure how hard it is, but I know from reading on here that you will make it!! I haven't read one post that the patient didn't make it!! Okay I know exactly where you're coming from, today is day 4 of liquids, tomorrow is my surgery. The thought of 7 days makes me cringe. I know all these lovely people are trying to give you advice and for you these may work, but I have had a HARD time with this liquid thing. LOL By day four it does seem that my body is becoming accustom to having no real food, but the ONLY thing that helped me was sleep. When I would get hungry I would go to bed...of course I don't know if you can do that if you're working or something, but basically I have slept through this horrible liquid nightmare. I know...a whimp, but after four days of no food I didn't feel like going anywhere...no energy. So, sleeping through this has been the best thing I could do. Just an opinion of course.
You CAN DO THIS!!! It will be so worth it in the end. I personally had Easter come after day 4 of my surgery. Of course I was on clear liquids at that point and worried about people noticing what I was doing. I had NOT told anyone about my surgery and had not planned to. I didn't want to be the topic of the family discussion. You know, everyone was so busy stuffing their face that they didn't even notice!!! I didn't even sit at the table but enjoyed the day and visiting with family. Most of them still don't know and I'm sure I'll get questions at Thanksgiving/Christmas. I will share at that point. I personally didn't want or need and advice concerning my decision for WLS and so I chose not to discuss it early on. I still don't discuss it much because it was such a personal decision for me. You hang in their because we're getting your spot all ready on the "looser's bench"!!! Feel free to vent any time. That's what we're all here for...you!!
