Alive and well...

Heya wonderful people!  I'm alive...and doing well.  I've finished my first day of driving to S. Dakota and I'm hanging out in Nebraska until tomorrow then I should be near S Dakota finally.  But anyway, I want you guys to know that you were all on my mind and I can't wait to be able to catch up!

I finally slowed my weighloss down by following Dr. B's recipe of tons of protein, yet my hunger is zero.  And when I do eat, it's sad to see how little I can actually consume.  Half of a piece of a thin slice of ham is about the most I can eat.  Is this common to everyone?

Anyway, I will be catching up when I can while on the road!  Can you guys let me know when you got your hunger back, and not just whne you got it bac but when you could eat more than 2 bites of something without immediately feeling sick or overly full?  I feel like something is wrong because I'm not lusting for food, and my hunger is in the negative.  Water still seems to be the thing that satisfies the most.

Miss You All  !!!!

Hey COF!  How are you?  I've been gone and just got back so it's good to see you posting.  Took a 7 day cruise and still lost 2 pounds so I'm pretty proud!

I can't answer your hunger question because I did get hunger back after about a month.  But it's not the tummy growling kinda hunger.  It's the "my-tummy-feels-empty" kinda hunger.  Way different than pre-op.  But I think we VSG'ers are different than you RNY'ers so someone else will chime in here.  Don't get too skinny - that would just be wrong!

I hope you are feeling well and enjoying your boys!  Happy Vacation!

Hi T- Glad you're having a good trip so far. I too got my hunger back at about a month. And Kim is right...it's just a different kind. When I'm hungry, I just feel like my lil tummy is empty. But again, like she said, I think we may be a little different than you rny peeps. As far as the amount, I can eat 2 thin slices of ham or turkey. Not big slices by any means....just 2 small thin slices. I know everyone is different though, so your body just may not be there yet. It took me until about 2 weeks ago to even get there. I was doing good to get 4 bites of refried beans for a long time. Hang in there...it will get better.

Have a great trip-

Liz

Hey T:

I am sure I am in the minority - but even after 2 years I don't feel that I feel hunger.  I know when I am "supposed" to eat but as far as wanting to chew off someone's arm, I haven't felt that.  However, with that being said - sometimes (still) two bites and I want to hurl and then on other days it takes 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup to satisfy the grouchy pouchy.  I never know until I take a couple bites what that little monster is going to do.

You are probably right where you should be right now with a RnY.  Nothing is wrong if you are not lusting for food.  That is a GOOD thing and hopefully that feeling will stay with you for a long time.  Yes, it is very weird how little we can survive on after surgery.  Just make sure that what you do consume is good stuff - dense proteins (follow your list!) and lots of fluids.  Especially with you up in the Badlands - you need to make sure you do not get behind in your fluids.

Hopefully you got me ecard the other day.  I'll be thinking about you & the boys traveling - be safe and take care of each other!

Miss you loads!!  R

Like Kim said, I'm a sleeve too so it might be completely different, but I can tell you I am just now getting my hunger back and I'm right at 3 months out.  It's not HUNGER like before, it's more of a very light "reminder."  This will sound strange, but it just feels kind of hollow.  Strange?  I think so.  Anyway, have a great trip and keep in touch!

I am glad you and the boys are doing well on your big trip.  Enjoy the little guys!  They will be men before you know it! I still can't believe my "baby" is 23 years old!  What happened to Legos and toy trucks?!?

My hunger returned at about one month also.  It is not the ravenous, eat anything not nailed down hunger but a derfinite empty feeling in tiny tummy.  I can eat different amounts on different days and depending on what food I am eating.  The tiny tummy rules the roost at all times!

Drive safely and have a good time!

Denise

Hope you like the vacation bro.  Bear Country will be so cool for you guys, you will love it.  And Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse are two sights that will stick with you forever...so breathtaking.

I have a few times where I feel somewhat hungry but thats when I realize its like 4 pm and i havent ate all day...lol.  Some days I just get so wrapped up in the day I don't even think about eating until the old tummy says HEY DUDE FEED ME YOU IDIOT.  Then I eat a little bit and I am fine.

I'm so glad to hear you are finally eating something!  I feared for your life!!!  lol  I think all that time on water only has made food a little harder for you to handle.  With time you will get more than 2 bites in.  My hunger has never returned like it was before.  I get head hunger when I am really in a lot of stress as I was a stress eater before...oh yeah and a happy eater and a sad eater...lol    You get the picture!  But my worst was the stress eating and I have to remind myself that my tummy is not really hungry at those times.  When I feel empty I drink water first and if I am still feeling empty then I eat.  I am still amazed at how little I eat compared to before surgery.  I have only heard my stomach growl once since surgery.  I just don't get that kind of hunger anymore.  It's weird.  I hope it stays that way for a long, long time!  Like everyone else, I have days when I can eat fairly good amounts of food and days when 3 or 4 bites is all I can handle. With time everything gets easier.  Hang in there!  And try not to waste away to nothing while you are at it!!  lol   Sounds like you are having a blast with the boys and traveling the country!  Good for you!  Take care!

I'm more like Ruth  in that I eat when I know I'm supposed to. However, I CAN tell you that if I don't eat, I get sick and crabby..It varies..sometimes a little, sometimes a lot and I'm scared I've stretched it out...it's all an individual thing.

Continue having fun on your vacate!
