Thought provoking question of the day

This is a question I gave my English kids to write about last year.  It is non-WLS related.

Is is better to be male or female and why?

Denise

I don't remember who was doing questions last week.  I don't want to step on toes.  If you want to do this go ahead.  I was just bored yesterday!

Talk about boredom!  Yesterday I could hear the crickets chirping. NO, not our beloved Rita..the regular kind!

Hmmm....better to be male or female?? I see advantages to both, but I'll take female.

I love being "a girl" and all the glittery, pink, sparkly things that go along with it. I like the clothes, makeup, etc, but I also enjoy being a Mom. I enjoyed expecting my babies and the bond we share. I enjoy being the caretaker, boo-boo kisser, etc. I enjoy making my home a loving place and having  2 children who love me. I like the feeling I get when I wear dresses..heels are next on the list again since I've worn flats for several years due to feetsy problems.

Guys can have a lot of these same things, too, but they will never know what it feels like to nurture a new life.

That being said, the downside is mother nature.

Well, I have never been a male  but I believe it is better to be a female. Of course there are things about being a girl that I don't like...(think just a minute you will figure it out) but I believe the bad out weighs the good.

Although, we can be confusing at times - I like the undecisiveness and mind changing. I like the prissing and pampering but I also like the tom boyishness ( <-- ??) that we can get away without to much critisism.

Female...definetely.  We get to give birth (yeah, the other things that go with it aren't so hot, but you deal with them).  We have cute shoes and clothing.  If we dont want to do something, we can find someone who will by batting our eyelashes.  We aren't expected to squish bugs and open jars.  If we want to be a tomboy, it is accepted, as opposed to a man wanting to wear something frilly, which, well, not so much.  We can legally attack offending parties and have it slide thru court under the guise of "PMS".  If we are a strong woman, we are labeled as "independent", "*****y" (a GOOD thing), and one who knows how to take care of herself.  If we are not so strong, we are a belle, gentle, and soft spoken.  With the right wiggle and giggle, we can get free stuff, lol.  Did I mention the cute shoes?  LOL

I could go on and on...WOMEN ROCK!

OK - seems like this thread is a little one-sided thus far....

I know there are only four or five of us here with that wonderful Y chromosone, but seriously...

We only need two belts (as long as they still fit) one black and one brown.
We only need three pairs of shoes (while they still fit.)
If we're brave enough, we can go most places without a shirt and not be breaking any laws. (Haven't made it there yet, personally)
We understand that bigger is almost always better - especially when it comes to trucks, guns, fires, and grills.

I agree completely that there is something unbelievable wonderful about being able to give birth to your own child, but just remember that if you're the mother giving birth, the father is probably the first one who ever gets to see the beautiful child!

And then there's that whole issue of the whole wild outdoors being our personal porta-potty!

I've never been a woman, but I'm pretty much leaning towards being a man being the best for me.

In the words of my teenage daughter: "Girls rule, Boys drool"!!!!! LOL!!   Sometimes I have envied the simplicity of being a man, but overall, no, I think being female has many advantages that I wouldn't want to be denied of. - Anna

Okay, don't get me wrong, I am female and love it....but... women seem to carry such a bigger load between job and house and children responsibilities.  Men have it so much simplier..one pair of shoes, one belt, etc.  Plus in the business world a man is taken more seriously.  A woman who is assertive is considered uptight or too aggressive where no one thinks twice about the man being the same way.  Men seem to have it easier to me.  Just my 2 cents.

While I truly love most aspects of being female and dont' wish I were a man I think it easier being male in our society.  If a man is agressive and assertive he is being a good businessman but a woman with those traits is usually seen as a Bi*ch.  In my profession in particular it is hard for a woman to get promoted to the next level- and if she's fat it's game over.  Is acceptable for men to be overweight but not for a woman.  I guess the reason I feel being male if better is because of societal biases.  OK, stepping off soapbox now!

There are probably advantages to either gender.  I don't think it's a one is better than the other type of question-it's just different.  Like, the difference between being a golden retriever or a pug.

It is easier to get ahead in our society under your own steam if you are a white male (an opinion which infuriates my brother who claims white male privelge does not and never has existed.....grrrrr).  As a woman, I get annoyed when I want to try things that girls "shouldn't" and get told that I shouldn't, but as a man, I might get as annoyed if I HAD to try those things.
