Weird itchy rash around my big incision

I have a very itchy rash surrounding my big incision so I am headed to WW this morning for Dr. B. t work me in.  I remember that last year after wearing a wet swimsuit with that hideous spandex/latex skirt all day I got a similar rash where the skirt had been.  It took a couple of weeks to go away.  I wonder if maybe I am allergic to latex or someting.  I bet their gloves are latex.  Anyway, I hope it is just an allergic rash and not some kind of infection where I have to take nasty tasty meds.  Wish me luck.  -Amy

Good luck Amy!  I'll bet it's the latex.  It seems a lot of people these days are allergic to the latex.  I'll say a prayer for you.  I know he'll get you headed in the right direction at any rate!!  -Debbie

I got a rash around a couple of my incisions.  I decided it was a reaction to the dermabond and used some cortisone cream for a couple fo days.  It resolved fairly quickly.  Let us know what Dr. B has to say. Denise

Amy - hope it's nothing major...I am allergic to some types adhesives, so the latex thing is very possible! Anna

I'm glad you're getting it checked out. Many, if not most, surgical gloves are now latex free. Also, latex allergies generally show up immediately. Maybe it's a reaction to something that was used topically? Hopefully, you'll be on the mend soon.
Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

It is only around the one incision that he would have been touching with his glove so I think it must be latex.  It is weird that it didn't get full blown until a couple of days ago.  I think tiny bumps started surfacing a day or so after surgery and it just took a bit before it whelped up into a full blown rash.

I just got back from the dr.  He said it doesn't look like infection.  Yea for that!  He thinks it may be a latex reaction since they do use latex gloves and that was the only place where he would have put his finder in...ewww gross...anyway, he said he could do steriod shots but didn't really want to.  I said I would tough it out because I don't think the steriod shots helped much last time I had a rash like this.
