Recovering from hysterectomy

Hello to all. I had my hysterectomy on Monday. My doctor said it was the most difficult one she has ever done. I guess I had so much scar tissue that my bladder, ovaries, and uterous had all fused together and become mangled. It took her 2 hours to cut everything apart. I also ended up losing alot of blood since all this scar tissue had grown extra blood vessels. My one hour surgery took over 3 hours. When they got me back to my room I had a blood clot come through my incision so they had to take out some of my staples, clean it out and then re-staple. So overall this has been much more than I bargained for. I may still have to have a blood transfusion due to the large amounts of lost blood. We're trying medication right now so hopefully that will help get my blood levels back up. I am asking for lots of prayers for both physical healing and also emotional. All this makes the thought of going through another surgery scary for me. I have been looking forward to wls for so long, but right now I am having alot of doubts which I am sure are acutally just nerves.......

Bless your heart Shely.  That is just awful.  I didn't go through near what you are but I did end up having a knee surgery that made me push my WLS date back.  It is very depressing.  I'm so sorry you have gone through all of this.  Thank goodness that you have a very good doctor that was able to fix everything.  I bet once you recover you will feel so much better than before you had the surgery and therefore be much stronger for your WLS.

Man, have you had a time of it!! I am so sorry. After you have time to heal from this, your feelings will change and you will once again be ready for WLS. Right now don't even worry about that phase of your life.....Just rest and heal from this one....This is major surgery and with complications, so don't rush yourself into anything...not even thinking right now!  Take care! Hang in there Shelly!!  If you can master THIS your WLS will be a snap!!   I think my hysterectomy (without complications) was much worse than my experience with my RnY.   Lots of love and prayers coming your way.....R

WLS is a piece of cake (oops! food porn!) compared to an abdominal hysterectomy!  My hysterectomy went exactly as planned and it was still much harder than WLS.  Recover from this one before you worry about he next surgery down the line.  Take good care of yourself and get well fast.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

I'm so sorry you had such a difficult surgery and now a difficult recovery. I will definitely keep you in my prayers. I hope you feel better quickly and that you have a complete recovery soon.

I had an abdominal hysterectomy many years ago, and for me, weight loss surgery was no comparison since it was so much easier than my C-sections or hysterectomy. WLS is major surgery, but skilled surgeons and laprascopic techniques make it incredibly easier and less painful. I do think the percentages are dramatically in your favor to have a much easier surgery for weight loss than you have experienced with your hysterectomy.

I will pray for you to get your strength back and for the transfusion to not be necessary ... and for you to feel much better every day.

Blessings and Best Wishes! Shelly

Hi, Shelly, You're in my prayers. I donate blood regularly at the OK Blood Institute. Do you need someone to donate to replace the blood given in the transfusion? I'll be glad to do that for you. donna
