Do you who have RNY ever wish you had the sleeve, and vice versa??

My research from the beginning in 2001 (3 years prior to my WLS) led me to the RNY.  I was scared of the surgery at that time, granted, but my curiousity was definitely there.  My research always brought me right back to the RNY and in 2004, I went to my PCP about it.  Shortly, thereafter, everything fell into place.  I felt well aware of what to expect with the surgery.  I know a lot of my friends are more interested in the lap-band, I don't know a lot about the sleeve (though it sounds very interesting).  I think each person has to do what they best feel is tailored to them and I have been a good fit with my RNY after over 160 lbs of weight loss to date and a lot of co-morbidities and medications gone forever.

I'm going to have to break away from the popular opinion of my fellow sleeves and say I wish I had gone with the RNY.  I love my sleeve, and I am loosing weight and off my diabetic meds.  But I am a huge sweet/ carb addict and a snacker.  The sleeve isn't as much of a detterent as the RNY for that.  Dr. Walton actually reccomended the RNY for me but I chose the sleeve for both cash-pay reasons (it's a third cheaper), and I as afraid of the malabsorption stuff and the slightly higher risks for things to go wrong w/ surgery.  But now I have to fight my brain constantly to not eat the things I'm still addicted to, and knowing that nothing "bad" will happen to me if I cave to my cravings doesn't help me much.  Also, my weight loss is super slow, but that might have happened with either sugery.  You should really follow whatever your doctor reccomends for you and whatever you feel is best in your gut.  Diana

This is the reason I'm going with the RNY.  I have a sweet tooth (those of you who have ate with me--remember Mimi's?  lol) know I have a sweet tooth. I think if I don't have the reinforcement of dumping syndrome I would be able to eat around the tool. Dot

My choice was alot easier.  $$$$$  Since I was a cash pay the cost difference b/w the two was a no brainer.  Also, my mom had RNY 5 years ago and had complications that docs didnt know where afflicated with the surgery.  I didn't want to go through any of that.  I also didnt need to lose a lot of weight.  Right at 100#'s.  When I went to ed. sem I was determined that I would have the band, then I heard of the sleeve and that sealed the deal for me and the rest is history.

Thank you for all your responses. I have been leaning towards the sleeve since the seminar. I still have time to research and all of your responses have been helpful. I just know I have to do something here before my health gets worse. Congratulations on all your new lives!! Thanks again...Sherry
