Hi, I have a stupid question. I had surgery 5 months ago. Tonight for the 1st time since surgery I got the hiccups. After a few hiccups my stomach started to kill me. Has anyone experienced this? My stomach started acting all crazy afterwards. Thanks, Tara

Just a thought, you might have some gas trapped in there somewhere creating the hiccups, or maybe even something not 100% chewed tiny in the stoma area.. If you can drink water, it might either move it around (so it could maybe come back up) or flu**** through.. Only reason I mention it, is that it's happened to me a few times and that usually works.. (IE it either resolves it or I "bring something back up" that I didn't chew enough; sorry if TMI..).. If it doesn't clear up, best bet is to check with your surgeon tomorrow morning, or earlier if you are in severe pain... Hope it helps - ...Nick By the way -- the only stupid question is the one you don't ask -- :-D

Hi Tara I would call your doctor.  I googled hiccups and wls and came up with this below:

Blockage of the Stomach Remnant

In the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, a new stomach pouch is made from top of the stomach and the rest of the organ is detached and left alone. The stomach remnant remains alive, but it shrinks in size. In rare instances, a blockage can develop in the stomach remnant, causing back-up of fluid and leakage of bowel contents. This condition can be difficult to diagnose because it does not cause vomiting. However, it may cause persistent hiccups or left shoulder pain, in which case you should call your surgeon. You would then need to have an abdominal CT scan. If the stomach is seen to be inflated, it will be deflated with a small needle using local anesthesia. This does not apply to the Lap Band It may be nothing, but why take the chance?  Call your DR ASAP, and keep us updated, I hope all goes well

good luck,

Maryellen:)

Tara, I get the hiccups when I'm full. And they do hurt like you said, I find if I get them that if I'll walk around for a bit that they will go away along with the pain. All The Best, Teresa

I am about 5 months post-op. This may sound bizzare but I hiccup almost everytime I eat now. Just a couple of times and then it goes away. I have no idea why. Mine have never hurt though. Good luck and keep us updated on what the Dr says : ) Kier
