I'm Getting Really Frustrated

O.k. I know I'm not supposed to be weighing myself, but I have been. I GAINED 2 lbs. since last Thursday.

I've tracked on fitday & my calories are less than 800 consistently. Not trying to do that, it's just how it's been. I've been getting all my H2O and more, eating at least 70 grams of protein a day, doing EXACTLY what the doctor ordered, started walking 1 way from Penn to B'way and 26th, so what's the deal?

I can eat more than the books say--more than 1/2 c. cottege cheese--more than 1 scrambled egg, but less than 2. I know SOMETHING's working down there, because i took too big a piece of a pill & i felt it get stuck for a sec. & foamed for a sec. too.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Karen, Whew I feel better...I am having the same problem.  I am careful on my meals...walking and trying to get all the liquids down and still seem stuck.  I have lost 35 pounds but, that came in my first 4 weeks.  I guess it takes the body a few weeks to "adjust"...but, I am ready to lose! Thanks, Rosemary.

I'm IN my first 4 weeks, that's why I can't understand why I'm not losing!

Karen,  I had my RNY on May 29th. I lost 16.5 lbs the first 2 weeks and nothing the 3rd week. I also gained 2 lbs the 3rd week and lost it again in the 4th week. I and 5 weeks out now and am down 27 lbs. i again hit a plateau in the end of my 4th week but i am beginning to lose again. Be careful not to watch the scale too closely. I find that when i am at a plateau, that is when i seem to lose the most inches for some reason. Doesnt make seense to me but it is true. Be patient and it will happen. I think everyone of us had the feeling that we would be the one person that this surgerydoesnt work for. But it will, just keep up the good work and be patient. Good luck Karen and Good health. Happy weightloss to you. Hugz Tina

I hope you don't mind me saying this to you.  It sounds like you are doing almost everything right, except one thing.  I would put the scale away for now.  Your body is still going through changes and you're not even a month out from the surgery.  Give your body time to adjust.  I found in the beginning that weighing myself was not a good idea because if I saw something that I thought wasn't "good" enough, it would frustrate me and that would work against me mentally.  So I stopped weighing myself until I went to the surgeon for my follow ups.  It was only when I went for a plastics consult that the Plastic surgeon recommended that I start weighing myself to determine if I was at a consistent weight.  Now I weigh myself twice a month.  According to my support group and the powers that be, your body fluctuates so every two weeks is about the best to show the weight. I also found that I always saw the difference in my clothes and in what I could accomplish.  I walk back and forth from work (Long Island City to Jackson Heights and vice versa) and when I have business in the city, I walk as much as I can to avoid trains.  Also you have to remember that the body goes into a starvation mode after surgery and will intitally try to hold on to the weight, but again, that will change, too. So continue what you are doing and try not to stress about pounds because it will come off. Take care, Sue

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is. - Ellen DeGeneres

Susan, of course I don't mind at all. I KNOW you're right. It's become an obsession with me. I think that once I actually do see a loss, I'm putting the scale away. I just can't quite bring myself to put it away until I see something. I keep telling myself that feelings aren't facts.

I can't quite walk all that comfortably yet; I just went back to work on Monday, and it's been taxi one way from Penn and walk the other way. Maybe tomorrow I can walk both days. Luckily my daughter's interning for me this summer, so she gets to carry stuff.

Thanks so much.

RNY on 09/26/12 with
I didn't notice a lose until around my 4th week, I had my surgery on 6/6/07 and had no lost until last week sometime. As of today I'm 198, we'll see what happens from here. Just give it some time, everyone's body works differently...I'm worried because my appetite has decreased too much, Im not getting enough protein so maybe I'll have to do liquids again. I go back in on July 20th, I dontknow if I'll need a fill or not. Best of luck to you.

In my 2 1/2 week out from RNY, I stalled for 2 1/2 weeks. Its hard, and to see a gain must be frustrating to. The best advice I can give you is STAY OFF THE SCALE. In the first 3-6 months theres not realy alot you can do to prevent weight loss, you will loose. The scale will drive you crazy. Now, I weighed every day, and still do. But if I could break that habit I know id have alot more sanity!!

As for how much you eat.....just because you can doesnt mean you should. I know I measured for almost all of my 1st year. Also being so early out your pouch isnt totally healed, so the nerve endings may not be feeling the full or empty feeling.

You're doing fine. Just stay off the scale lol!!

It's very reassuring to know that I'm not the only person this ever happened to and I'm not the only person who thinks her surgery didn't work!

I am measuring, I guess I expected to feel full from 1/2 cup of cottege cheese...some of the books I read say 1 - 2 TBS of food would be filling.
